Job Description: Your Opportunity:These are casual VESST positions where the shifts may vary, 8.4-12 hour shifts. Candidate must be able to work days, evenings, nights, weekends and holidays.Description:As a Vehicle Equipment Supplies Service Technician (VESST), you will assist with the everyday EMS Fleet maintenance schedule and physical movements to and from vendors of fleet vehicles. The VESST will ensure that spare vehicles are clean, fully equipped and supplied as required by provincial regulations and AHS EMS inventory lists. As a VESST you are responsible for the inspection and repair of equipment (i.e. Power Cots, Power Loads, suction units). You will prioritize, schedule, and complete vehicle and medical equipment inspections and engage AHS vendors as required. As a VESST, you may be required to assist with direct patient contact and medical care, respond to disasters or large scale incidents within the province of Alberta as required. This position may require extensive standing, twisting and physical demands to perform job duties. Alberta Health Services EMS requires the proof of the successful completion of the Functional Abilities Recruitment Evaluation (F.A.R.E.) test via the certificate provided by the Lifemark organization for all applicants external to AHS or internal to AHS, who do not already hold a clinical position within AHS EMS (VESST, Clinical Educator, EMR, PCP, ACP and Community Paramedic). Your F.A.R.E. test must be completed within 6 months of the date of your application. Alberta Health Services EMS may verify results with Lifemark to ensure the candidate has successfully completed the test. Required Qualifications:Completion of an Alberta College of Paramedics (ACP) approved program. Active registration with the Alberta College of Paramedics (ACP). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support – Healthcare Provider (BCLS-HCP). Must hold a valid Class 4 Alberta Operator’s Licence with no more than six (6) demerits. Completion of the Functional Abilities Recruitment Evaluation (F.A.R.E.) test taken no more than six months from the application date. Additional Required Qualifications:Candidate must be able to travel on short notice, including overnight travel and out of town. Candidate must be able to be around emergencies with sick or injured patients and must be able to treat them. Candidate will be around Emergency rooms, in hospitals and exposed to bodily fluids from trauma. Candidate must be able to frequently lift heavy items to 80 lbs. Candidate must be able to occasionally lift heavy items to 105 lbs. as per the F.A.R.E. test requirement. Preferred Qualifications:Preference will be given to candidates with previous VESST and/or EMS experience. Preference is given to candidates with previous warehouse experience and vehicle detailing experience. Preference will be given to candidates with a minimum of six months experience using the Fleet Management Software (Holman) and Fleet Ticket Management Program (FEMS).Please note:All postings close at 23:59 MT of the posting end date indicated.Security Screening:A satisfactory criminal record check and/or Vulnerable Sector Search is required prior to your first day of work.
