The primary focus for the successful candidate will be prospecting and pursuing new business targets to profitably grow our portfolio, as well as underwriting, maintaining, and expanding of an assigned renewal portfolio. The successful candidate will be responsible primarily for Middle Market Property and Casualty business within the BC & Territories Underwriting team. This is a market-facing role focused on building market relationships, expanding our brand, and driving our presence and growth.Senior successful incumbents will also play a key role in coaching, mentoring, and training other members of the team to ensure their ongoing professional development, as well as leading relationships with key broker partners and clients.Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Focus on proactive market engagement activities to drive organic new business growth. Key areas of focus include appetite delivery, submission generation and proactive pipelining, in addition to core marketing and market presence activities.
  • Responsible for proactive account management and new business production and underwriting of Middle Market accounts including analysis of risk, negotiation of policy terms and conditions, and confirmation of rate adequacy, all consistent with Liberty underwriting guidelines and strategies, and with a focus on building a long-term and profitable portfolio. Ensure proper exposure analysis, documentation, quality and timeliness of account summaries, file organization, adherence to Underwriter guidelines, and effective use of risk services, actuary and claims resources.
  • Maintain and expand Liberty broker and client relationships through regular marketing activities, and the development of a pipeline of preferred Middle Market clients.
  • Work closely with other Liberty business units to leverage multi-line business opportunities.
  • Demonstrate effective prioritization of workload and provide superior customer service to our brokers and clients.
  • Demonstrate a desire for and continuous pursuit towards ‘elite underwriting’ skills and knowledge of Liberty products, with a focus on Property & Casualty products.
  • Continuous learning and development through attendance of industry events, relevant seminars, and courses, and learning from existing Liberty expertise.
  • Follow Liberty’s Guidelines for Inclusion and encourage its use at Liberty. Build personal DE&I knowledge and act as an early adopter of new DE&I skills and processes to drive positive change.
  • Other duties and projects as assigned.

Skills & Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 2-4 years’ experience underwriting commercial P&C insurance with an emphasis on middle market commercial business.
  • University degree or equivalent post-secondary education with relevant insurance designations/ education is an asset.
  • Firm understanding of core P&C policy wordings, trends, pricing and strategies, with strong industry knowledge.
  • Self-starter with strong analytical skills, in addition to strong business and interpersonal communication skills required.
  • Superior relationship management and negotiation skills.
  • Must portray action oriented behavioral traits and is dedicated to meeting the expectations and requirements of internal and external customers.
  • Able to make sound underwriting decisions in a timely manner under tight deadlines.
  • Excellent communication, organizational and time management skills.
  • Collaborates well across business units.

The target annual salary for this role is $75,000 – $110,000.
