Whereas historically it has served as a meeting place and trade centre, the rivers today stand in for the symbolic act of gathering with guests from all directions and hosts from Treaty 1 territory. They are also sites of profound ongoing disapora and poverty, racial violence and environmental degradation. These are matters which our communities have organized around for many years.Confluence is an exhibition which brings together artists who are active in the city of Winnipeg in 2024, synergy with the city’s 150th anniversary, ushering a time to reflect on histories of the city, projection of future and understand the present’s needs, priorities, and values of artists and communities within the city and their relationships to one another and their communities.This posting is for two Curatorial Assistant positions with Confluence during the exhibition run, which includes working with artists, researching artworks, developing tour materials, liaising with local contacts, and promotional activities with social media. These activities will take place remotely and in gallery in September before the exhibition opens, and in person at the exhibition site, 226 Main Street in Winnipeg during the exhibition’s open hours: Tuesday – Saturday 12-5pm from October 2-November 27Responsibilities:

  • Working under the supervision of the Principal Investigator, Dr. Suzanne Morrissette, in support of the project’s research goals and objectives
  • Assisting with supervision of research activities within the field
  • Assisting with the preparation of proposals, progress and final reports
  • Assisting with the promotion of research activities
  • Working with Technicians and other research personnel, where relevant, by ensuring the appropriate and safe use of materials, equipment and/or facilities
  • Participating in the provision of safe and secure environment for all members of the University community and its facilities

Qualifications:

  • Near-completion of a relevant undergraduate degree or current enrollment in a relevant undergraduate program and/or equivalent training and professional experience;
  • Where relevant, sound knowledge of, and commitment to, healthy and safe work practices;
  • Where relevant, strong organizational, interpersonal, oral and written communications and problem-solving skills;
  • Demonstrated responsibility as a keyholder for past employers;
  • Demonstrated commitment to the principles of equity and diversity and experience promoting a respectful work and learning environment for students, staff and faculty

Hours of Work: 20 hours (flexible schedule) in September plus 25 hours per week over the period of 2, October, 2024 to 30, November, 2024 following gallery hoursWork Environment: The incumbent in this role will be expected to report to work on campus.Compensation: $21.32 (Undergraduate Rate) /$33.78 (Graduate Rate) per hour, subject to qualifications, plus 6% in lieu of benefits plus vacation pay, as applicable, per the provisions of the Employment Standards ActPlease note the following:
