Job Description: Job Description:MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES:As required/directed:
- Perform required carpentry work, including maintenance/repairs, renovations, cabinet making and new construction; participate in design of construction if and as required
- Drive water truck, tractors and other vehicles on an as-needed basis
- Participate in handling injured horses, maneuvering them, as required, into horse ambulance
- Perform required barn/track-area related repairs, maintenance and clean-up (this can include, but is not limited to: drain-cleaning, painting, rock-picking)
- Other duties as assigned
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS & ABILITIES:
- Minimum Grade 12 Education
- Proven ability to perform carpentry work to required level (certification as a Journeyman Carpentry required)
- Proven ability to drive and maneuver heavy trucks (eg. 5,000 gal. tank truck), tractors and other vehicles safely (lapsed or current ‘air’ endorsement preferred)
- Experience and general knowledge/ability re “handyman” duties such as plumbing and painting; WHMIS certification
- Proven ability to handle and work in close proximity to horses
- Physical ability/willingness to do heavy work, work at required heights
- Knowledge of racetrack surfaces an asset
- Ability to work effectively without direct supervision; adaptability
- Good inter-personal skills
- Must successfully pass a criminal and credit record check by the Gaming and Policy Enforcement Branch (GPEB) – Racing
