Periodically, you’ll be required to attend in-person activities or events.As a Test Engineer II at Vancity, you specialize in test planning and execution for core banking solutions, including automated test scripts. You lead testing efforts, communicate progress and quality issues, and excel in cross-functional, fast-paced environments with a customer focus.Vancity will have quality assurance and testing activities planned and executed as part of its software delivery process to ensure that applications meet business functional and non-functional requirements.A typical day will involve:As a Test Engineer II, you bring crucial knowledge and analytical skills to core banking solutions and Vancity. You have expertise preparing and executing test planning, strategy, and approach to guide the testing efforts and ensure adequate test coverage. You analyze business requirements and create test scenarios and test cases, as well as identify test data. You execute the required software testing efficiently, collect evidence and provide detailed results. You have experience leading other team members in test planning and execution. You can create, execute, and maintain automated test scripts in a large, complex IT environment. You are a good communicator, and you are comfortable monitoring and reporting on the progress of testing efforts and advising project leads and other stakeholders on issues and decisions related to quality. You are comfortable working in cross-functional teams in a fast-paced environment, with focus on the member/customer. Experience in the financial industry preferably in core banking is considered a big asset.The role:

  • You are a subject matter expert on quality assurance for core banking initiatives.
  • Preparing and executing test planning, strategy, and approach to guide the testing efforts on a project and ensure adequate test coverage.
  • Analyzing requirements, creating test scenarios and test cases, and identifying test data.
  • Executing functional test cases manually, capturing evidence and providing detailed results as needed.
  • Leading other team members as needed in the execution of the test planning, strategy, and approach.
  • Managing defects and collaborating with stakeholders in the analysis and resolution of issues.
  • Supporting and coordinating with business team for User Acceptance Testing (UAT).
  • Providing quality assurance support on analyzing and resolving production issues.
  • Monitoring and reporting on testing progress, test results, defects, and issues to stakeholders.
  • Providing quality assurance expertise, advice, and recommendations to stakeholders to mitigate risks.
  • Reviewing test cases to identify and prioritize feasible candidates for test automation.
  • Writing SQL queries and scripts to retrieve and validate data.
  • Designing, developing, executing, and maintaining automated test scripts as required
  • Reviewing test automation scripts created by others, providing feedback, and addressing the feedback provided by others.
  • Running automated test suites and investigating the issues identified.
  • Collaborating with other quality assurance team members.
  • Actively contributing to the Quality Assurance Community of Practice.
  • Collaborating with development teams and vendors, release management, operations, and infrastructure teams.
  • Providing input into design, development, and implementation activities.

You Have:

  • A bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or other highly related discipline(s).
  • 5+ years of experience in quality assurance of web and mobile applications.
  • 5-10 years of experience in quality assurance in large, complex, and highly integrated IT environments.
  • 3-5 years of experience in quality assurance in financial industry business processes and operations, preferably in core banking.
  • 1-3 years of experience in testing automation. Hands-on experience with the latest test automation tools and frameworks
  • Proficient in preparing a test strategy and test approach to guide testing efforts on a project.
  • Proven analytical capabilities to analyze requirements, create test cases and evaluate test results.
  • Proven ability to respond to change quickly, including changing, adding or improving test cases.
  • Proficient level in SQL
  • Experience leading other quality assurance team members in a project setting.
  • Experience reporting on test progress and issues to stakeholders.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience with system integration and software integration with multiple vendors.
  • Experience with owning test environment.
  • Passion for testing and quality assurance.

Bonus points if you have:

  • Experience with Temenos T24 banking system will be considered a plus.
  • Experience with on-line and mobile banking testing will be considered a plus.
  • Experience with API testing will be considered a plus.
  • Experience with performance and load testing will be considered a plus.
  • Experience with establishing a test environment and data requirements for testing purposes will be considered a plus.
  • Experience in agile, cross-functional teams with Scrum will be considered a plus.
  • Testing certifications such as ISTQB or similar will be considered a plus.
