Brief Description:The Head Schools / Synagogues is responsible for ensuring that all operational and non-operational activities in the Routine Department are executed and managed efficiently. The role reports directly to the Head of Operations.Job Function:Operations:

  • Manage all security related operational activities of schools/synagogues including training facilitation, shifts and shift rosters, on premises events, facility files, security personnel, procedures, physical security, etc.
  • Manage relationships with principal/Rabbi, facility leadership, lay-leadership, staff, security volunteers, parents/congregants, security companies, security specific contractors and service providers.
  • Ensure all Jewish schools/synagogues have parent/community protection teams during key times such as access, during (for synagogues), egress (and outings/field trips for schools).
  • Ensure all schools/synagogues have effective security personnel during all operational hours through a combination of paid security and parent/community volunteers
  • Provide support to security teams on the ground (operational and non-operational).
  • Provide guidance and support to all stakeholders around matters of security.
  • Ensure all school/synagogue events/Chagim/activities that are out of the normal course of business are being tracked, information gathered timeously, and necessary additional security measures implemented.
  • Ensure that all protection activities are being carried out in accordance with policies and standard operating procedures (SOPs). Guide and assist the facility to effectively document, implement and improve SOPs.
  • Work with facilities, security personnel and volunteer base to produce, monitor and regularly update SOPS, protection strategies, project plans.
  • Guide and support facility decision makers in understanding security needs and implementing these, including all physical security measures, security related technologies, procedures, the effective training and deployment of personnel, and relevant security equipment.
  • Assist in the effective training and deployment of security personnel.
  • Work to create a culture of security, sense of personal responsibility and proactive involvement across all levels including principal/Rabbi, facility leadership, lay-leadership, staff, security volunteers, parents/congregants, school children (at schools), security companies and security officers.
  • Work to ensure all facilities are connected to the JSN command and control center (SOC), including technologies such as panics, alarm systems, CCTV cameras, etc.

Recruitment and Training Courses:

  • Guide, encourage and actively drive the volunteer recruitment process, including basic courses for parents/congregants that will act as greeters/eyes and ears, and advanced courses for JSN protectors, Team leaders and Shift leaders.
  • Ensure candidates are supported and guided throughout courses, establishing the appropriate discipline, culture and ethos. It is also important to instill a culture of inclusiveness, appreciation and empowerment.
  • Assist security volunteers in preparing for courses.

Other Training:

  • Oversee the coordination of parent/staff/congregation security awareness discussions and courses.
  • Oversee the development and implementation of age-appropriate awareness discussions and training for school children.
  • Oversee the development and implementation of regular training for paid security personnel.
  • Support the training department in reviewing training material on an ongoing basis for applicability and relevance.
  • Ensure all department volunteers regularly attend weekly training and upskilling sessions held by JSN.

Administration:

  • Liaise with and support facility team leaders.
  • Communicate with the facilities leadership and security personnel on a daily basis providing updates and information as it relates to their security.
  • Hold regular meetings with rabbis/principals and security team leaders to improve their awareness and security.
  • Support and motivate volunteers and security personnel and ensure that issues are raised with the department heads.
  • Assist JSN in driving communication and marketing to the community and volunteers.
  • Update JSN’s Personnel Management System (CRM) on an ongoing basis with information pertaining to all volunteers and facilities.
  • Update JSN’s Security Operations Center (SOC)/Emergency Control Room on an ongoing basis with information pertaining to all volunteers and facilities.
  • Assist in sourcing providers, obtaining quotes and applying for grants for all facility security upgrade projects including security equipment, guarding, physical security solutions and technological security solutions.
  • Assist facilities in implementing, communicating and monitoring security rosters for both paid officers and volunteers.
