With a reputation for expertise, attention to detail, and strong client relationships the business continues to flourish.We are currently looking for a Survey Assistant in the Saskatoon area. The Survey Assistant is responsible for assisting a Crew Chief in the practice of surveying across all sectors/divisions within Midwest. This position works closely with the Crew Chief in performing field surveys supporting client projects.What’s In It For You:· Hands on mentorship and guidance (i.e., one-on-one job training with an experienced Crew Chief).· Years of service rewards (e.g., gifts, increased vacation, etc.).· Employer paid benefits package includes:o Flexible health spending account & extended health coverage (e.g., prescription, dental, etc.).o Life insurance & travel health coverage.o Personal/sick days & wellness spending account.o Employee Assistance Program.· Safety training provided and paid for as needed (e.g., H2S, First Aid, ATV, etc.).Survey Assistant’s Role:Performs duties which include, but are not limited to, the following:· Follow all Midwest health and safety policies, practices & procedures, with a commitment to contributing to the safe work culture.· Participate in monthly field safety meetings.· Able to communicate effectively with the Crew Chief, including asking questions and a willingness to learn about survey methodology and techniques.· Able to operate all communication and electronic equipment (cell phones, laptops, etc.).· Able to operate motor vehicles, including OHVs (off-highway vehicles) and medium-duty trucks (Ford F-350 or similar).· Able to operate survey equipment under the supervision of the Crew Chief, including setting up, operation and packing up all survey equipment.· Able to perform basic survey data collector functions under the supervision of the Crew Chief.· Able to complete basic survey tasks such as staking and flagging boundaries and searching/digging for survey evidence.· Maintain a clean and organized work environment, including maintenance of tools, supplies, and vehicles.· Comply with jurisdictional Commercial Carrier Safety requirements/regulations (training provided by Midwest).· Develop a basic understanding of project related documentation and project workflows.· Assume a safety lead position should the Crew Chief become injured.· Perform other duties as assigned by Crew Chief and Field Operations Manager.Strong Candidate Qualifications & Experience· A valid driver’s license, free of major convictions as defined in jurisdictional traffic safety regulations (i.e., distracted driving, driving while impaired).· A High School Diploma, or equivalent (completed courses in Geomatics from a recognized post-secondary institution is considered an asset).· The ability to comply with Drug & Alcohol testing requirements as stipulated by client requirements and jurisdictional health and safety regulations.· Experience working in outdoor, all-weather environments.· Experience with operating Off Highway Vehicles (OHVs) & 1-ton class trucks (F-350 or similar medium duty truck).· Experience with basic Microsoft applications, including Outlook, Word, and Excel.· Comfort with the operation and use of navigational and orienteering tools (e.g., handheld GPS units, Google® maps, hard-copy paper maps, etc.).· As an asset, but not required, experience in a similar role including the use of survey equipment (e.g., GNSS RTK, Total Stations, Levels, UAVs, etc.).· Preference for candidates with industry standard safety certificates already in possession.About SaskatoonSaskatoon is a growing, friendly city of 250,000 and a pocket of Saskatchewan’s culture, vitality, and welcoming prairie spirit.
