Title of the Job: Supervisor, Youth Justice

Location: Toronto, ON

Job Description: The youth justice congregate care programs provide services to young men, between the ages of 12 and 18, who are involved in the Youth Criminal Justice System and who have been court-ordered into open custody or open detention placements. The Program Supervisor works in conjunction with the Program Manager and the Assistant Program Supervisor to ensure that comprehensive and effective services are provided to clients and their families, while overseeing all aspects of the day to day operation within the program. The Program Supervisor is responsible for maintaining Ministry compliance and licensing standards. The Supervisor supports the Level Determination system process.What You Will Do

  • Assist staff to assess and understand client mental health needs through a developmental and trauma informed lens.
  • Supervise and monitor staff in the delivery of effective therapeutic programming and intervention.
  • Provide regular supervision and identify appropriate professional development for assigned staff, including Program Assistant Supervisor.
  • Ensure effective use of existing communication systems to convey client and program related information.
  • Supervise staff in the development, implementation, and evaluation of life skills and recreational programming for youth.
  • Monitor use of staff according to assigned budget and ensure accurate and timely submission of timesheets for payroll purposes, and/or ensure task effectively completed by Assistant Supervisor.
  • Oversee reconciliation of petty cash by the Assistant Supervisor.
  • Ensure fiscally responsible oversight of the program’s budget and assets.
  • Oversee data collection and accuracy of client records by conducting quality assurance reviews and audits of client files.
  • Ensure client records are maintained per Agency standards and in accordance with privacy policies and legislation.
  • Assist in ensuring that all documentation related to licensing legislation is maintained appropriately and that information is communicated to the Program Manager.
  • Chair/Co-Chair team meetings as required.
  • Provide on-call coverage in coordination with other management staff.
  • Perform other duties as assigned and required.

What You Bring to the Team

  • Degree/Diploma in a related field (MSW, BSW, CYC Worker) or equivalent
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience working with children/youth in a congregate care setting
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience supervising staff
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience working in youth justice programs
  • Demonstrated relational/strengths based philosophy of care towards children and youth.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of best practices in therapeutic interventions and programming
  • Demonstrated strong leadership and ability to coach and mentor
  • Demonstrated experience with the issues facing our at-risk youth population.
  • Experience with budgeting and fiscal responsibility
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation and licensing standards
  • Knowledge of programming and best practices for children and youth
  • Knowledge of community resources and extensive networking experience
  • Ability to exercise professionalism and sound judgment in conflictual and stressful situations
  • Excellent administrative, organizational, communication and leadership skills
  • Ability to help maintain a safe and comfortable physical plant in a good state of repair
  • Able to be part of the on-call rotation for all congregate care programs
  • Sensitive to, and ability to work with, diverse staff and client groups
  • Strong computer skills and report writing skills
  • Valid First Aid/CPR and UMAB certifications
