Who we need:Reporting to the University Librarian, the Student Success Librarian is responsible for providing tailored library services, instruction and academic support in both the on-campus and online environments. They work collaboratively with the Information Literacy Librarian and other key partners across our organization to assess needs, design, market, and implement library instruction, programming, and services that support student learning, success, and retention at all levels. This role involves working closely with faculty, students, and staff to meet their unique information and research needs. They play a crucial role in enhancing teaching, learning, and research initiatives within the designated area of specialization. Student Success Librarians have a passion for innovative teaching and learning approaches, and a commitment to developing library instructional best practices.In this inaugural role, the ideal candidate possesses a strong service-oriented philosophy for helping students, faculty, and other student services staff. This includes a passion and commitment for instruction that is inclusive, empowering, creative, and pragmatic. The successful candidate is also expected to contribute positively to the university’s core values where students can grow and thrive, be their best selves. What you will do:
- Assess and refine information literacy programs to meet the evolving needs of the university community (both Yorkville University and Toronto Film School), while developing and delivering instructional sessions on information literacy topics for students, faculty and staff.
- Provide reference and research support in-person (at a designated campus in ON or BC) and online via email, phone, video (e.g., Teams or Zoom) and/or other online reference systems.
- Create engaging tutorials and library guides that facilitate access to information resources and enhance student and faculty experience.
- Plan, promote, and facilitate online webinars covering essential topics (e.g., bibliographic software, searching databases, APA citation, Artificial Intelligence, etc.).
- Participate in library orientations (and other social and academic events) across campus classes, focusing on both on-campus and online delivery methods.
- Serve as the primary library liaison as assigned by the University Librarian (such as dedicated support for undergraduate, graduate, or subject specializations) and build relationships with key academic and student experience leaders to inform outreach activities, resource development, and service improvements.
- Contribute to university-wide student success initiatives by collaborating with key support services, including peer tutors and mental health resources.
- Research emerging trends and scholarship in higher education to inform library instructional strategies, student success, and assessment standards (e.g., Artificial Intelligence tools).
- Coordinate and maintain APA citation library supports (e.g., APA blog) in conjunction with other Student Success Librarians.
- Promote and deliver library services on-campus (depending on campus and programs of support as designated by the University Librarian).
- Contribute to a positive organizational culture that supports equity, inclusion, learning, and wellness.
Reporting a minimum 3 days a week on-campus, scheduled between Yorkville University’s Concord, Ontario campus and its various Toronto Film School campuses in downtown Toronto.Subject specialization in supporting business and creative industries programming from diploma through graduate degrees. What you bring:
- Master’s Degree from an American Library Association (ALA) accredited university program.
- Demonstrated experience, either on the job or through graduate level coursework, in designing, delivering, and assessing library instructional content.
- Familiarity with the ACRL Framework for Information Literacy for Higher Education (and/or other frameworks relevant to librarianship and adult education).
- Commitment to diversity and inclusion working with users of all ages and from diverse socioeconomic, cultural, and academic backgrounds.
- Familiarity with videoconferencing systems (e.g., Teams, Zoom, etc.).
- Familiarity with library and educational software (e.g., Brightspace, Libguides, EBSCO Discovery, Microsoft 365, Zotero, etc.).
- Knowledge of best practices in information literacy instruction.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment and independently with little supervision.
- Familiarity with the American Psychological Association (APA) citation style.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
- Strong customer service philosophy that emphasizes patience and care for student well-being.
- Ability to organize workflow and managing multiple projects.
- Creative and innovative mindset with a passion for continuous improvement and professional development.
