  • Are a highly skilled professional cook who is proficient in all aspects of food preparation
  • Are organized, detail oriented, observant and passionate about serving fresh, high quality meals
  • Enjoy cooking and creating new dishes
  • Exercise sound judgment and demonstrate solid teamwork skills

Key Responsibilities:

  • Contributes to the smooth operation of the daily meal production line – facilitates the production of between 250-350 hot meals daily
  • Ensures clients receive nutritious, well balanced and appetizing meals
  • Helps in ordering, menu planning and recipe scaling
  • Prepares meals that meet nutritional standards, are appetizing, and are prepared and portioned consistently
  • Assists with inventory management
  • Ensures food safety
  • Ensures that proper safety precautions are followed
  • Supervises kitchen volunteers
  • Supervise kitchen staff in the absence of the kitchen manager
  • Maintains quality and cleanliness in professional kitchen environment

Education/Qualifications:

  • Culinary diploma and 3+ years related professional experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Current safe food handling certificate
  • Current Standard First Aid and CPR

Skills, Knowledge, Abilities:

  • Demonstrated ability to exercise judgment/seek advice in decision making, anticipate what will be needed, and identify issues and solutions
  • Thorough understanding of how to cook many types of food and what flavours go together
  • Familiar with bulk/banquet style cooking
  • Experience with menu planning, inventory control are decided assets
  • Demonstrated ability to operate all general kitchen equipment, including combi ovens, steamers, kettles, tilt skillet, etc.
  • Ability to thrive in a high-pressure environment
  • Superior communication, time management and organization are as vital as culinary skills to this position
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and interruptions, and to work effectively as a team member
  • Ability to give and take verbal and written direction and follow through to completion of task
  • Knowledge of proper food handling, cooking to specific nutritional guidelines, temperature control, good hygiene and quality control
  • Capable of lifting moderate weight ( >50 lbs) and carrying it short distances
  • Valid driver’s license with daily access to a vehicle- no bus route
  • Experience working with volunteers and/or ability to communicate in languages other than English are decided assets
