The course provides an in-depth study of electrostatics and magnetostatics. Topics examined include Coulomb’s Law, Gauss’s Law, electrostatic energy, conductors, Ampere’s Law, magnetostatic energy, Lorentz Force, Faraday’s Law and Maxwell’s equations.Estimated course enrolment: 55Number of Hours: 0.65 FTESessional dates of appointment: Specific duties will occur between January 1, 2025 and April 30, 2025.Salary: Starting September 1, 2023 the following rates of pay apply for half courses (F or S), inclusive of vacation pay: $9457.89 for a Sessional Lecturer I; $9,930.79 for a Sessional Lecturer I Long Term; $10,151.76 for a Sessional Lecturer II; $10,326.61 for an Sessional Lecturer II Long Term; 10,362.76 Sessional Lecturer III; and $10,570.02 for a Sessional Lecturer III Long Term.Minimum qualifications: Ph.D. in Physics or a physical sciences-based field with an undergraduate degree in physics. Previous experience in teaching at the University level.Preferred qualifications:Description of duties:Preparation and delivery of lectures (2h/week) and tutorials (1h/week), creation of an exam, midterm test, quizzes and/or assignments, test and exam solutions, exam marking, marks management and availability at regularly scheduled weekly office hours. The instructor will set quizzes and/or assignments to support the learning of course content and will provide solutions to the midterm, quizzes and assignments to a course marker. Management of online support for the course in the form of announcements, notes and term work solutions is also expected.Lectures: Mondays 10 am – 11 am and Thursdays 10 am to 11 am
