The Hydrologic Forecasting and Water Management Branch of the Department of Transportation and
Infrastructure is seeking qualified candidates for the role of Senior Shoreline Management Engineer.

  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
  • Bachelor’s degree in civil/geotechnical engineering.
  • Must be registered or be eligible for registration as a Professional Engineer with Engineers

Geoscientists Manitoba (EGM)

  • Must be willing and able to travel within Manitoba as required.
  • Must be able to occasionally work in an outdoor rough terrain environment in both winter and

summer in extreme weather conditions.Qualifications:
Essential:

  • Extensive experience in geotechnical modeling and analysis, erosion protection design and

riverbank stability work.

  • Extensive experience undertaking technical review with a sound understanding of geotechnical

engineering principles, including but not limited to material properties, groundwater conditions,
construction methodologies and typical industry practice for erosion control and stabilization
measures.

  • Experience in undertaking geographic information system (GIS) work with ArcView GIS
  • Working knowledge of shoreline erosion mechanisms, slope stability analysis and riverbank

stabilization methods and tools

  • Effective interpersonal skills with the ability to foster collaborative working relationship with

various internal and external stakeholders.

  • Strong written communication skills including the ability to prepare technical and non-technical

correspondence and reports.

  • Strong verbal communication skills
  • Ability to undertake independent research and develop proposals to introduce new industry

innovations into department operations.

  • Knowledge of Workplace Safety and Health work practices

Desired:

  • Master’s degree in civil engineering is an asset.

Duties:
The Senior Shoreline Management Engineer provides geotechnical support, advice, and guidance related
to riverbank and shoreline works in the Province of Manitoba. This position also chairs and manages the
Shoreline Erosion Technical Committee (SETC) to provide services province-wide, and designs and
integrates multi-disciplinary technical inputs for projects in which riverbank and shoreline erosion
mitigation and/or stabilization may be required. The Senior Shoreline Management Engineer reviews
applications for shoreline and riverbank developments and assesses the geotechnical components of the
new developments related to designated flood areas, provincial waterway works, Water Management
Engineering and Construction (WME&C) design standards and Manitoba Parks policies.
