All profiles must be a maximum of two (2) pages and include a minimum of two (2) business references for applicable projects and the project commences September 16, 2024Description:The ServiceNow Discovery and Integrations Specialist will be responsible for:Infrastructure and Application Discovery
- Identifying Assets and Dependencies:
o Automatically discover IT infrastructure components, such as servers, routers, databases, applications, and more.o Identify the relationships and dependencies between these components to build a comprehensive view of the IT landscape.o Expand discovery as required throughout the organization. o Introduce and establish cloud discovery.
- Multi-layer Discovery:
o Perform discovery across multiple layers, including the network layer, operating system layer, and application layer, ensuring a deep understanding of the IT environment.Configuration Management Database (CMDB) Population
- CMDB Data Population:
o Populate the CMDB with detailed information about discovered assets, including their configurations, status, and relationships with other assets.o Ensure that the data in the CMDB is accurate and up-to-date, supporting various ITIL processes like Incident, Problem, and Change Management.
- CMDB Health and Maintenance:
o Monitor and manage the health of the CMDB by identifying and resolving issues such as duplicate entries, stale records, and orphaned CIs (Configuration Items).Discovery Patterns and Probes
- Design and Management of Discovery Patterns:
o Create, configure, and manage Discovery patterns to define how Discovery identifies and classifies assets.o Use patterns to extend Discovery capabilities to custom applications or non-standard devices.
- Utilizing Probes and Sensors:
o Deploy and manage probes and sensors that collect data from devices during the discovery process.o Customize probes and sensors to gather specific information needed for unique environments or custom configurations.Credential Management
- Managing Discovery Credentials:
o Set up and manage credentials (e.g., SSH, SNMP, WMI, etc.) used by Discovery to access and gather data from devices.o Ensure secure and compliant management of credentials, rotating them as necessary and minimizing exposure to unauthorized access.Identification and Reconciliation Engine (IRE)
- Configuration Item (CI) Identification:
o Use the Identification and Reconciliation Engine (IRE) to correctly identify and classify discovered assets, avoiding duplicate CIs in the CMDB.o Define and manage identification rules that determine how Discovery matches and updates existing CIs.
- Reconciliation:
o Ensure that the correct data sources are prioritized when populating or updating CIs in the CMDB, maintaining data integrity and consistency.Discovery Schedule and Control
- Scheduling Discovery Scans:
o Schedule regular Discovery scans to ensure continuous visibility into the IT environment.o Customize schedules based on business needs, such as more frequent scans for critical infrastructure and less frequent scans for stable, less dynamic systems.
- Controlling Discovery Scans:
o Monitor and manage the progress of Discovery scans, troubleshooting issues that arise during the discovery process.o Adjust scanning parameters, such as IP ranges or protocols used, to optimize performance and ensure complete coverage.Service Mapping
- Mapping Business Services:
o Use Discovery in conjunction with Service Mapping to automatically map business services and their underlying components.o Create accurate service maps that show how different infrastructure and application components support business services.
- Dynamic Service Mapping:
o Enable dynamic updates to service maps as the underlying infrastructure changes, ensuring that service maps remain accurate over time.Discovery Diagnostics and Troubleshooting
- Discovery Troubleshooting:
o Diagnose and resolve issues that arise during the Discovery process, such as failed probes, inaccessible devices, or incomplete scans.o Use Discovery logs, diagnostic tools, and error messages to identify the root cause of issues and apply corrective actions.
- Discovery Performance Optimization:
o Monitor and optimize the performance of Discovery by tuning parameters such as scan frequency, IP range configurations, and probe efficiency.o Ensure that Discovery processes are efficient and do not overly burden the network or devices being scanned.Integration with Other ITOM Modules
- Integration with Event Management:
o Integrate Discovery with Event Management to correlate discovered CIs with events, enabling proactive monitoring and faster incident resolution.
- Integration with Orchestration:
o Leverage Discovery data in Orchestration workflows to automate common IT operations tasks, such as provisioning or de-provisioning resources based on the CMDB data.Reporting and Analytics
- Discovery Reporting:
o Generate reports and dashboards that provide insights into the discovered assets, discovery coverage, and CMDB health.o Use analytics to track trends, identify gaps in coverage, and measure the effectiveness of Discovery processes.
- Compliance and Audit Support:
o Provide data from Discovery to support compliance initiatives and audits, ensuring that the organization maintains accurate records of IT assets and configurations.Consultant QualificationsThe Senior ServiceNow Developer specializing in Discovery, IT Operations Management (ITOM), and Integrations will play a critical role in designing, developing, and implementing robust solutions within the ServiceNow platform. This role requires a deep understanding of ServiceNow’s capabilities, particularly in ITOM and Discovery, and the ability to integrate various systems seamlessly.
- Education:
o Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field. An advanced degree is preferred.
- Experience:
o Minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience with ServiceNow development and administration:▪ Extensive experience in configuring and customizing ServiceNow applications, with a focus on ITOM and Discovery.▪ Proven track record of managing and delivering complex ServiceNow projects, from requirements gathering to deployment and support.o Expertise in ServiceNow Modules:▪ In-depth knowledge of ServiceNow ITOM, including Event Management, Orchestration, and Operational Intelligence.▪ Comprehensive experience with ServiceNow Discovery, CMDB health, and remediation rules.▪ Proficiency in ITSM and other ServiceNow modules, with a strong understanding of their integration with ITOM.
- Technical Skills:
o Advanced Development Skills:▪ Proficiency in JavaScript, HTML, CSS, AngularJS, and other web development technologies essential for ServiceNow customization.▪ Strong understanding of ServiceNow architecture, including the data model, security, and access control mechanisms.o Integration Expertise:▪ Extensive experience with ServiceNow integrations using REST, SOAP, and other integration technologies.▪ Ability to design and implement complex integrations between ServiceNow and third-party systems, ensuring seamless data flow and process automation.o ServiceNow Discovery and ITOM:▪ Expertise in configuring and optimizing ServiceNow Discovery to ensure accurate and up-to-date information in the CMDB.▪ Familiarity with the Identification and Reconciliation Engine (IRE) and its role in maintaining CMDB data integrity.▪ Experience in implementing and managing CMDB health dashboards, remediation workflows, and automating IT operations using ServiceNow ITOM.
