Clients have enlisted AGI Food’s expert team to manage numerous challenging projects from start to finish, taking a flexible and collaborative approach that considers all stakeholder requirements, as well as the safety of everyone involved.The OpportunityThe Senior Mechanical Designer will be responsible for creating 3D models and preparing detailed engineering drawings. These include dimensions, fastening methods, and other engineering information in relation to machinery, structures and mechanical equipment or devices.Responsibilities

  • Create and develop 3D models in SolidWorks for machinery, equipment and structures as stand-alone units or part of integrated systems that include all mounting and piping requirements.
  • Contribute to the development and expansion of the product portfolio, establishing a design basis for standard offerings.
  • Select hardware and components and create detailed Bills of Materials.
  • Responsible for consideration of safety, installation methodologies, and lifting plans.
  • Design for manufacturability and collaborate with manufacturing teams to develop designs capable of being manufactured in house or through 3rd party vendors.
  • Develop sheet metal designs and create and modify burn programs using sheet metal nesting software.
  • Ensure all designs are thoroughly checked and in accordance to internal Design and Documentation standards.
  • Review and approve vendor equipment approval drawings.
  • Assist Project Managers and estimators where required.
  • Travel to customer site as required to perform pre-engineering measurements, site surveys and assist with start-up
  • Identify and communicate deviations from scope of work
  • Understand customer requirements and expectations and develop/drive actions and schedules needed to support those program expectations.
  • Treat all AGI and customer information in a confidential manner
  • Understand and abide by AGI policies and procedures
  • Inform management of problems or issues which affect the AGI’s ability to meet customer requirements
  • Perform other work-related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering is mandatory
  • 10+ years of experience with designing food manufacturing/food processing equipment is mandatory.
  • Experience with FEA analysis an asset.
  • 3D SolidWorks design and drafting.
  • Drafting and design with metal fabrication, material handling equipment, structures and grain systems.
  • Able to read and understand structural indication drawings as well as interpret specifications, sketches and information that affect component or system design.
  • Knowledge of ASME, NFPA, and OSHA standards pertaining to Manufacturing equipment and platform design.
  • Ability to lead or attend internal, client and vendor meetings.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Mechanical and technical skills/knowledge.
