Worksite: Children’s & Teen ServicesJob Summary: Reporting to the Assistant Manager, Teen Services, this position works collaboratively within their team to provide service to the public, meeting Library goals, objectives and service standards established by Children’s and Teen Services. Creates a welcoming, patron-centered experience through its involvement in the design, planning, and delivery of services and programs for teens. Under the guidance of a librarian, the incumbent assists in the planning of programming for teens. This position provides instruction and support to the public on to the use of digital devices such as e-readers to access library resources. An incumbent in this role understands and practices community-led approaches and represents the Library’s vision, mission and values by demonstrating and modeling conduct that reflects the library’s policies and procedures.Minimum Qualifications: Candidates must possess the Education/Qualifications/Experience in category 1 or category 2 listed below in order to be deemed as meeting minimum qualifications. Please ensure these minimum qualifications are clearly listed in your application. Note that this does not guarantee being shortlisted.For SLPSA, “considerable experience” equates to 3 cumulative years of experience in any one of the four categories (programming, information services, collection maintenance, community collaboration).Education/Qualifications/Experience:

  • Completion of an approved Library Technician diploma program and 2 years of experience in a customer service environment

OR

  • Completion of an undergraduate degree from a recognized university and two years experience in a customer service environment, and considerable experience demonstrated in an area such as programming, information services, collection maintenance, and/or community collaboration.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Considerable knowledge of library methods, procedures and tools applicable to the work
  • Working knowledge of the objectives, organization, procedures, services and resources of the Library
  • Ability to pleasantly and effectively deliver children’s programs and services
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to participate in the planning and presentation, including public speaking and instruction, of library programs and projects.
  • Ability to plan, organize and carry out assigned duties and responsibilities with supervision.
  • Ability to participate in the maintenance of the library collection.
  • Pleasant and effective customer service skills.

Work Schedule:Tuesday: 9:00am – 5:00pm
Wednesday: 10:00am – 6:00pm
Thursday: 9:00am – 5:00pm
