The TTC’s new vision and mission statements also help promote the many environmental, social equity and economic benefits that the TTC provides:Vision: Moving Toronto towards a more equitable, sustainable, and prosperous future.Mission: To serve the needs of transit riders by providing a safe, reliable, efficient, and accessible mass public transit service through a seamless integrated network to create access to opportunity for everyone.The full Plan canCareer OpportunityWe currently have an exciting opportunity in our Corporate Communications Department. we are currently hiring for a Senior Communications Specialist – Capital Projects to join our dynamic team.What You Will DoYou will lead external communications for TTC Corporate Communications with a focus on capital projects and you will develop communications plans and strategies to raise the profile of the TTC’s capital projects.As the Senior Communications Specialist, you will oversee robust and timely content development; support senior management on media relations matters; organize and lead media events; and identify opportunities for positive media coverage for the TTC. You will also develop briefing notes in support of TTC Board Reports; and provide advice and counsel regarding political and sensitive issues as required.This role will require you to develop external communication plans, train support staff on external communication matters, track and produce media and issue reports as needed while advising Executive, TTC Board members and City Hall staff of emerging issues as required. In addition, you will maintain direct contact with internal and external stakeholders for communications initiatives and issues providing communications counselling to senior management/executive and TTC Board members which includes attending public and TTC meetings to present and/or discuss the issues and strategies as required.You will be responsible for treating passengers and/or employees with respect and dignity and ensuring the needs of passengers or employees with disabilities are accommodated and/or addressed (within their area of responsibility) in accordance with the Ontario Human Rights Code and Related Orders so that they can fully benefit from the TTC as a service-provider and an employer.As the incumbent you may also Participate in the TTC’s Customer Service Ambassador ProgramWhat Qualifications Do You Bring?
- Completion of a post-secondary degree/diploma in Communications, Public Relations or related field, combined with extensive, senior level corporate and/or government experience in strategic communications and issues management.
- Experience working in internal and external communications in the public sector specializing in reputation management and issue resolution
- Excellent knowledge of the corporate communications field including various forms of internal and external communications such as printed materials, social media, video, film, TV and radio
- Experience in mentoring team members, and achieving excellent results, in addition to being a team player.
- Prior experience working in a technical, project management environment is an asset.
- Comprehensive understanding of the role of communication principles and practice within an organization.
- Knowledge of media in Toronto as well as knowledge of the TTC and associated GTHA transit issues.
- Excellent knowledge of the corporate communications field including various forms of internal and external communications such as printed materials, social media, video, film, TV and radio.
- Exceptional research, writing, editing and presentation skills.
- Well developed technical skills in Microsoft Office products, combined with applied knowledge of desktop design, publication/production/presentation software and new technologies, digital and social media communications.
- Must possess sound judgement, sensitivity and discretion; strong communication, interpersonal and facilitation skills, and the ability to establish effective work relationships with internal and external stakeholders and colleagues.
- Excellent planning and organizational skills to manage multiple projects and priorities in a timely manner and adapt to changing situations.
- Strategic and creative thinking as well as political savvy, and the ability to motivate and co-ordinate the efforts of others to accomplish objectives.
- Must have or rapidly acquire a comprehensive knowledge of the Ontario Human Rights Code and Related Orders including disability accommodation and accessibility requirements pertaining to passengers and employees.
