Job Description: SalaryThe salary range for this position is CAD $41.42/Hr. – CAD $55.91/Hr.SummaryAs a Staff Nurse for the Chronic Pain Program, you’ll be at the forefront of patient care, working collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team to ensure patients/residents receive comprehensive support. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Assessing, identifying, planning, implementing and evaluating the nursing care required to assist patients/residents in meeting their physical, social, spiritual and psychological needs using an established framework for nursing practice.
  • Developing, implementing, evaluating and revising the plan of care. Incorporating individual and/or group teaching into the care plan and nursing interventions and/or makes referrals to other identified resources.
  • Supporting other nurses and health care professionals by collegially sharing information and demonstrating procedures.
  • Working within an interdisciplinary clinical framework in accordance with the BCCNM Standards of Practice and consistent with the mission, vision and values and established protocols of Providence Health Care.

The Chronic Pain Program is offering a training/development opportunity! The Chronic Pain Program team will provide the successful nursing candidate with hands on in-clinic training to ensure that they become proficient in programming spinal cord stimulator (SCS) implants and administering intrathecal pump fills for pain management.

  • Spinal cord stimulation delivers low voltage electrical stimulation to the spinal cord to block painful sensation.
  • Intrathecal pump is surgically implanted and medication is directly delivered to the fluid surrounding the spinal cord.

Additionally, the successful nursing candidate will receive training from a fully-trained neuromodulation nurse, physicians in the neuromodulation program, and the clinical representatives from companies who supply the implants. The training period is expected to be completed between 6-8 months.What You BringEducation

  • Current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
  • Two years’ recent medical/surgical experience with adults living with pain; demonstrated skills competency and proficiency in programming and managing implantable neuromodulation devices and related interventions for the management of chronic pain or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

  • Demonstrated knowledge and ability to perform Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) procedures appropriate for the area of service.
  • Ability to work as a member in an interdisciplinary team.

  • Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
  • Ability to prioritize and organize work.
  • Ability to operate related equipment.

Your Day to Day:

  • Reviews patient/resident status through methods such as reviewing the patient/resident chart and other written information, patient/resident observation, interviewing patient/resident and family members, completion of questionnaires, collateral information and consultation with peers and other members of the health care team.
  • Assesses patient/resident problems and needs, plans, implements, evaluates and prioritizes nursing care and nursing interventions and develops the plan of care for patients/residents using clinical judgement and evidence-based practice.
  • Provides nursing care according to identified policies and procedures, technology and PHC standards.
  • Monitors patient/resident progress, evaluates outcomes, reassesses if goals are not met, and modifies plan of care based on evaluation.
  • Records observations and reports problems and/or changes in patient/resident condition to designated staff.
  • Provides direct nursing interventions for management of crisis and life threatening situations.
  • Documents information including assessments, plan of care, patient/resident status and progress and discharge plans in a manual and/or computerized environment.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
