Salary: $25.98 – $32.48 per hour: To commensurate with experience and consistent with UHN compensation policy

Closing Date: October 10, 2024Position SummaryThe Ajmera Transplant Centre at the University Health Network is currently recruiting a Research Technician I. This will be a temporary, full-time position for the duration of one year with the possibility of extension based on performance and available funding. The successful candidate will participate in clinical and translational studies relating to vaccination and infectious diseases in immunocompromised transplant recipients.Duties

  • Supporting active and incoming clinical research studies.
  • Processing research specimens – E.g., isolation of PBMC and serum from blood.
  • Testing of clinical samples using laboratory assays including, but not limited to, ELISA, flow cytometry, and probe-based real time PCR.
  • Support ongoing lab research activities
  • Generate new data, validate new protocols, as required.
  • Administrative responsibilities will include placing orders for the lab, overseeing lab equipment and electronic and freezer inventories, stewardship of the laboratory space and shipments to collaborating centres.

Qualifications

  • At minimum, Bachelor of Sciences in Biochemistry, Biology, Molecular Biology, Immunology, Microbiology, or a related field.
  • At minimun, 6 months of related experience
  • Prior experience in a research lab is a required
  • Experience in blood processing, cell culture, ELISA, viral infections, biochemical assays, nucleic acid extraction, PCR and/or flow cytometry is preferred.
  • Exceptional organization and time management skills
  • Experience managing clinical research specimens is an asset
  • Be able to work both independently and as a team and to delegate tasks as needed.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and familiarity with Zoom/Microsoft Teams.
  • Must be available on-site Monday-Friday during regular business hours. In rare circumstances, work on evenings, or weekends may be required.
