Job Description: Research Study Coordinator, Medicine,Primary Purpose: The successful candidate will coordinate research projects for Dr. Sabira Valiani as part of her research program that seeks to improve patient and family centered care in the ICU, with intentional consideration of Equity, Diversity, Inclusion (EDI).Nature of Work: Under the supervision of Dr. Valiani, the Research Study Coordinator will support two grant-funded projects:1) Connect-ICU: This project uses Design Thinking methodology applied to health research to co-create communication technology solutions that facilitate patient and family centered care in the ICU. Specifically, the successful candidate will:

  • Perform a national Delphi process including REB approval, preparation of meeting materials, participant recruitment, participant consent, follow-ups to ensure survey completion, rapid data analysis, and data presentation for subsequent Delphi rounds.

2) ICU Bereavement: This project uses co-creation and implementation research to improve bereavement support for families who have lost a loved one in the ICU. Specifically, the successful candidate will:

  • Coordinate bedside healthcare provider recruitment and consent for co-creative workshops that will be conducted by a Research Consultant, assist with data collection and data analysis during and after the workshops under the supervision of the Research Consultant, and preparation of a summary of findings for dissemination.

Typical Duties or Accountabilities:Job Functions include but are not limited to:

  • Working within a team environment and fostering positive relationships with co-investigators, bedside healthcare providers, patient and family partners, students and other stakeholders.
  • Attendance at team meetings, creation and circulation of meeting minutes.
  • Adherence to timelines and study budgets.
  • Development of participant recruitment materials, participant recruitment, informed consent, and participant tracking (i.e. creation and maintenance of a Master List)
  • Preparation / assistance with ethics applications, amendments, and renewals.
  • Preparation / assistance of Operational Approvals
  • Perform basic statistical analysis with assistance from the Department of Medicine statistician.
  • Perform qualitative data analysis under the supervision of Co-Investigators / Research Consultant.
  • Compliance with core research ethics principles as guided by the Tri-Council Policy Statement on Research Ethics (TCPS-2).
  • Research Data Management including secure storage of data, organization of data and research team documents, maintenance of confidentiality, and creation / adherence to a Research Data Management plan.

Education: Graduate-level training in a related field, or a healthcare professional designation with experience in research (i.e. Bachelor of Sciences in Nursing, Respiratory Therapy).Experience:

  • Previous experience in health sciences research, innovation, or a related field should be demonstrated.
  • Experience managing multiple, complex projects, would be an asset.
  • Some experience with basic statistical analysis would be an asset
  • Some experience with qualitative analysis would be an asset

  • Be organized and detail oriented
  • Take initiative, and be self-directed
  • Complete assigned tasks with independence, recognizing their own limitations
  • Willingness to learn new skills and receive constructive feedback from team members
  • Be an effective communicator, including use of engaging graphics to convey your message (samples of communication materials such as presentations or recruitment posters will be reviewed)
  • Proficiency in Excel, Microsoft Word, and Powerpoint
