We advance the careers of future researchers, teachers, professionals, and policymakers as active and contributing citizens.PositionThe Research Coordinator will work on a CIHR-funded Mental Health in the Early Years (MHITEY) Implementation Science Grant. Working in partnership with Early Years programming in Alberta, the Yukon, and Nunavut, the objectives of the MHITEY project are twofold: (1) to examine factors associated with successful implementation of Early Years programming in Indigenous communities, to help lay the foundation for early childhood mental health; and (2) to co-create tools to evaluate early childhood program implementation in ways that centralize Indigenous community priorities related to early childhood mental health.The Research Coordinator will contribute to the project in several ways, including grant preparation, data collection, data management, data analysis, manuscript preparation, and knowledge dissemination. The Research Coordinator will execute project plans, facilitate communication between team members, coordinate day-to-day research project operations, and manage overall milestones and grant deliverables to ensure project completion.This position will work alongside community partners and other research staff, including graduate students. The Research Coordinator will design and execute research projects (primary and secondary) using various methodologies; develop knowledge mobilization products (e.g., research briefs); and build collaborative relationships and projects amongst academic and community experts to fill research gaps and build specialist knowledge capacity.The Research Coordinator will also foster the development of collaborative research projects and identify relevant funding opportunities to support partnerships.Duties

  • Lead and oversee data collection and analysis activities related to qualitative and quantitative data, ensuring research protocols are followed. This will also include developing research tools, preparing materials and consent forms, analyzing data, and creating summaries.
  • Conduct analysis of qualitative and quantitative data using appropriate software and techniques (e.g., SPSS, NVivo). Translate technical and/or analytical results into useful information for community partners.
  • Develop and implement methods to document the processes, challenges, and successes of projects, including maintaining a schedule of milestones and deadlines for all grants, reports, articles, etc.
  • Write and coordinate the preparation of quality grant and award proposals as well as contribute to writing research papers, reports, presentations, and publications. Write ethics applications; update and maintain ethics approvals as necessary.
  • Present results to partners, funders, and/or at conferences.
  • Meet and collaborate with partners to discuss data, and to plan for data collection, analysis and knowledge mobilization. This will include travelling to meetings in the Maskwacis community and may also involve travel to the Yukon Territory and Nunavut.
  • Provide leadership within the scope of the research project internally to ensure efficient and effective operations.
  • Participate in the hiring process for research assistants and graduate students. Supervise, train, and mentor research assistants, graduate students, and/or other project contributors as required.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with community, government and academic stakeholders that facilitate ongoing, sustainable research collaborations.
  • Engage with stakeholders to define the research process and foster the necessary stakeholder involvement to ensure timely activities, cooperation, and progress of the project.
  • Support opportunities for collaboration with community members in conducting research, liaising between the project team and the community.

Minimum Qualifications

  • A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree, in a related discipline (e.g., Psychology) is required.
  • Knowledge of Indigenous research methods as well as a broader understanding of community-based research, as demonstrated through prior work experience and/or training.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A graduate degree in a related field is strongly preferred.
  • Experience supporting, managing, and facilitating complex partnerships
  • Knowledge of quantitative, qualitative and mixed methods
  • Experience developing, managing and writing successful grant applications
  • Experience and expertise in designing and independently leading research projects
  • Experience and expertise writing for different audiences while using a variety of knowledge mobilization strategies that will engage formal and informal stakeholders
