Position Number: 00057158Description:About us:The Dalla Lana School of Public Health is a Faculty of the University of Toronto that originated as one of the Schools of Hygiene begun by the Rockefeller Foundation in 1927. The School, which played a critical role in the COVID-19 pandemic response, went through a dramatic renaissance after the 2003 SARS crisis and it is now the largest public health school in Canada, with more than 850 faculty, 1,000 students, and research and training partnerships with institutions throughout Toronto and the world. With $76 million in research funding per year, including more than $31.5 million held at DLSPH, the School contributes to improving population health and health policy and health systems through discoveries and innovation in data science and AI, maternal, child and reproductive health, climate change [response], implementation and improvement sciences, preventable disease through vaccines and prevention through [and] wellness such as with diabetes, comparative health policy, sustainable and equitable health systems, global and Indigenous health, among many other areas.Your opportunity:As a Research Assistant, you will use your strong understanding and application ofqualitative and quantitative research methods to support the planning of research goals. You will be hands on in analyzing, formatting, and synthesizing of research data to contribute to the formation of systematic literature reviews and presentation materials. You will utilize your communication and strong interpersonal skills to maintain relationships and ultimately support business objectives.Your responsibilities will include:

  • Implementing and executing qualitative and/or quantitative research methods
  • Assessing needs and contributing to the planning of research goals
  • Drafting and submitting documented procedures to the Research Ethics Board (REB) for approval
  • Analyzing and formatting data collected for to prepare draft statistical reports
  • Synthesizing technical, qualitative, and contextual research data and conducting systematic literature reviews
  • Drafting presentation materials
  • Fostering stakeholder engagement and maintaining relationships with project partners
  • Handling sensitive and/or confidential information

Essential Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or acceptable combination of equivalent experience.
  • Minimum one year of relevant research assistant experience, or graduate level training, in an academic research environment or other related institution
  • Experience collecting, and analyzing data, and preparing draft qualitative andquantitative research reports.
  • Experience conducting systematic literature reviews and drafting presentation materials.
  • Experience drafting and submitting documented procedures to the Research Ethics Board (REB)
  • Advanced skills in word processing, spreadsheets, and database management software
  • Strong research skills with solid understanding of quantitative and qualitative research methodologies.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to meet deadlines with sensitivity to organizational priorities.
  • Ability to take initiative, solve problems and make day-to-day decisions
  • Demonstrated ability to work well as a team member and independently.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a high-pressure environment and prioritize tasks.
  • Understanding of handling confidential and sensitive information; strict adherence to policies and procedures

Assets (Nonessential):

  • Experience working with marginalized populations and equity-seeking groups.
  • Experience with first aid or first aid education (eg: lifeguarding training, first aid certification etc.)
  • Basic understanding of program evaluation
  • Experience working with non-profit and humanitarian organizations
  • Experience working with public health and healthcare trainees
