The Research Assistant will be responsible for coordinating the Patient, Public, and Community (PPC) Engagement and Knowledge Translation Activities for the “Early Identification of bipolar disorder in Adolescents and Young Adults: Establishing a Collaborative Research Agenda” research project. The goal of this research project is to engage and collaborate with physicians, trainees, health providers, and individuals with lived experience with bipolar disorder, via workshops, focus groups, seminars/webinars, and meetings, to establish a framework focused on improving individual knowledge on early identification of bipolar disorder in adolescents and young adults.Organizational Status
The Research Assistant reports to Dr. Kamyar Keramatian, the Principal Investigator (PI).Work PerformedSupports and assists the PI in creating knowledge translations seminars/webinars/research workshops content, and questionnaires by contributing to literature searches and reviews, performing data gathering and analysis, and reporting writingAssists the PI to develop and disseminate research agenda materials for PPC engagement and knowledge translation activitiesCoordinates knowledge translation workshops, focus groups, seminars/webinars, research meetings, and presentation sessionsAssists the PI in communicating with physicians, trainees, researchers, and the community to ensure participants’ feedback from focus groups, interviews, and questionnaires is relevant to the creation of the frameworkCarries out any other related duties as required in keeping with the qualifications and requirements of positions in this classification.Consequence of Error/Judgement
The position works within well-defined guidelines and procedures but exercises judgment in establishing priorities and carrying tasks through to completion. New or unusual problems are referred to the supervisor. The person needs to be organized, detail-oriented and reliable. Any errors in tracking, data recording and entry, or breaches in confidentiality could harm the projects.Supervision Received
Supervised by the Principal Investigator. Weekly meetings held to cover significant issues.Supervision Given
None.Minimum Qualifications
High school graduation, some additional training in a related field and a minimum two years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.– Willingness to respect diverse perspectives, including perspectives in conflict with one’s own– Demonstrates a commitment to enhancing one’s own awareness, knowledge, and skills related to equity, diversity, and inclusionPreferred QualificationsProven experience in co-ordinating Knowledge Translation Activities.Demonstrated experience with computers and computer software including MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and SPSS; and with online databases (PubMed, etc.).Effective skills in oral and written communication, interpersonal communication, multi-tasking and organization.Ability to work independently and within a team environment.
