IHPME is housed within the Dalla Lana School of Public Health, which is the largest public health school in Canada, with more than 850 faculty, 1,000 students, and research and training partnerships with institutions throughout Toronto and the world.Your opportunity:Principal Investigator, Dr. Geoffrey Anderson, is leading a team working on a series of funded projects that involve the analysis of health system administrative data sources as well as data from large population-based surveys such as the Canadian Longitudinal Study of Aging (CLSA) and data from population-based cancer registries.As Research Analyst, you will apply your strong analytical research background to research projects using administrative health system and population-based data. You will contribute to the study design, research and analysis plans and conduct statistical and machine learning analysis according to project plans. You will write reproducible code for data cleaning and data management, to conduct exploratory and statistical and machine learning analysis of data to assess feasibility of new research projects and perform descriptive and inferential analysis. You will conduct systematic literature reviews on methods and analytical tools and assist in preparing grant applications, reports, manuscripts and presentations. Your background in data managementand analysis, solid communication and organizational skills will be crucial to your success in this role.Your responsibilities will include:
- Implementing and executing quantitative research methods
- Conducting data analysis and preparing draft reports and summaries for research papers, including providing detailed information on data analysis findings to stakeholders
- Analyzing and writing program scripts to extract, reformat and analyze data
- Formatting research results to be presentable and easily comprehensible
- Assisting in the preparation of grant submissions and knowledge translation activities
- Delivering presentations at conferences on research findings
- Tracking, monitoring and documenting research activities, maintaining project records and informing stakeholders of project progress.
- Supervising the activities of practicum and graduate students
Essential Qualifications:
- Master’s Degree in Biostatistics, Epidemiology, Health Sciences, Computer Science or an acceptable combination of equivalent experience.
- Minimum three (3) years of relevant work experience preferably with machine learning and interpretation of quantitative health-related data
- Experience with population-based health-related data and experience linking and analyzing large data sets.
- Experience submitting and drafting data-access paperwork for various data sources
- Experience writing reports and contributing to manuscripts for public dissemination and for publication in peer-reviewed journals
- Experience presenting at academic conferences
- Experience supervising the day-to-day activities of practicum and graduate students
- Proficiency in statistical analysis, including: binomial, and multinomial logistic regression, categorical data analysis, survival analysis, predictive modelling, geo-spatial analysis, imputation methods and in supervised and unsupervised statistical learning
- Strong proficiency with open-source software and data tools like R, Python, and Github and demonstrated technical skills conducting epidemiological, statistical and predictive modelling
- Proficiencywith MS Office Suite, EndNote and other software packages and programming languages currently used to collect, analyze and report data
- Strong communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills
- Excellent organizational, time-management and problem-solving skills with the ability to manage conflicting priorities
- Strong commitment to accuracy and attention to detail
- Demonstrated initiative and possesses a strong commitment to research work
