Job Description: Your Opportunity:As a Primary Care Paramedic (PCP) in Edmonton Metro, you will be a patient advocate who will effectively communicate and interact with community partners and allied healthcare professionals to ensure safe and proficient patient care and transportation. To fulfill your responsibilities, you will safely operate emergency vehicles, respond to medical and traumatic emergencies and inter-facility transport requests while adhering to professional standards, medical control protocols, standard operating procedures, polices and directives. To ensure that your qualifications are recognized, please provide a chronological resume and cover letter in PDF format.Description:As a Primary Care Paramedic (PCP), you will assess emergency scenes and patients and may transport ill or injured patients from emergency scenes and between facilities. This includes operating ambulances or other modes of transportation. You may treat patients by administering minor medications, basic life support (BLS) airway adjuncts, and semi-automated defibrillation. You may also lead the BLS crew in delivering clinical care during patient transport or at emergency scenes. You will assist with ensuring that ambulances or other Emergency Medical Services (EMS) vehicles, such as non-emergent transport (NET), are properly stocked and equipped. The working environment for a PCP is demanding and includes exposure to heat, cold, rain, snow, and wind, moving traffic, and industrial and agricultural equipment. You will need to travel in all weather conditions and to remote locations (e.g. backcountry) with exposure to hazardous and graphic scenes and direct exposure to bodily fluids. The working conditions for a PCP are also physically demanding. You must be able to endure frequent lifting and carrying of up to 105lbs, while transporting and transferring patients, supplies, and equipment. You must be able to endure frequent, simultaneous kneeling and trunk flexion for extended periods. Additionally, you must stand and sit for extended periods, bend, twist, side-carry up to 20lbs in each hand and assume awkward positions.

Required Qualifications:Non-restricted registration in good standing with the Alberta College of Paramedics (ACOP) as an Primary Care Paramedic (PCP). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support – Healthcare Provider (BCLS-HCP). Must be able to obtain a valid class 4 Alberta Operator License or equivalent and a five (5) year driver abstract current within six (6) months with no more than six (6) demerits prior to commencing work. Proof of the successful completion of the Functional Abilities Recruitment Evaluation (F.A.R.E.) test via the certificate provided by the Lifemark organization, who do not already hold a clinical position within AHS EMS (VESST, Clinical Educator, EMR, PCP, ACP and Community Paramedic). Your F.A.R.E. test must be completed no more than six (6) months prior to the date of your application. Alberta Health Services EMS may verify results with Lifemark to ensure the candidate has successfully completed the test. Additional Required Qualifications:Applications may be shared with AHS EMS recruitment teams from communities other than the one listed on this posting. Successful candidate must work collaboratively with a patient, their family and members of the patient’s healthcare team, consulting with other healthcare providers when necessary. Successful candidates must lift and move patients and equipment. Successful candidates must work days, nights and evenings with a variety of hours. Preferred Qualifications:Preferred minimum 6 months experience working as posted designation in EMS frontline operations.
