Responsibilities:

  • Develop and update sanitation standard operating procedures (SOPs) and cleaning schedules.
  • Ensure consistent implementation of cleaning protocols across all sites.
  • Coordinate the introduction of new sanitation technologies, such as advanced techniques like fogging and ozone cleaning (in line with your focus on enhancing Program Clean).
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory standards (FDA, USDA, CFIA, OSHA, etc.) and industry best practices.
  • Conduct regular audits of sanitation practices and prepare for external audits.
  • Provide ongoing training to site sanitation managers and sanitation technicians to ensure competency in cleaning procedures and chemical handling.
  • Develop training materials on sanitation compliance, chemical use, and advanced techniques.
  • Lead onboarding for new sanitation staff, setting clear expectations and processes.
  • Monitor sanitation KPIs, including cleaning efficacy, microbial results, and compliance with cleaning schedules.
  • Report on sanitation performance to senior management, highlighting improvements and areas needing attention.
  • Use data analytics to track trends, performance issues, and the effectiveness of sanitation strategies.
  • Investigate sanitation-related issues such as contamination, mold growth, or allergen risks.
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives to enhance sanitation efficiency, such as reducing downtime for cleaning or optimizing chemical usage.
  • Participate in cross-functional defect analysis meetings to address sanitation-related product quality issues.
  • Evaluate and manage relationships with chemical suppliers and sanitation service providers.
  • Ensure that all external vendors comply with internal sanitation and safety standards.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the reporting leader and/or department.

Requirements

  • Comfortable with travel within Canada (Langley, Regina, Calgary and Winnipeg)
  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or Food Science
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English are required
  • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills
  • Strong computer skills including proficiency in data analysis using Microsoft Excel and Power BI
  • Knowledge and/or experience with process improvement methodologies such as Lean and Six Sigma.
  • Availability to work weekends and night if required
  • Experience in multi-site management is highly valued in a corporate setting, especially in overseeing sanitation programs across various locations.
  • Extensive experience with regulatory compliance, such as CFIA (Canada), FDA (USA), or international equivalents.
  • Proven track record of managing sanitation programs, implementing SOPs, and ensuring adherence to sanitation standards.
  • Experience with audits and inspections, including both internal audits and compliance with external regulatory bodies (e.g., USDA, FDA, and OSHA).
  • Demonstrated experience in leading sanitation continuous improvement initiatives, particularly with the use of advanced techniques like fogging, ozone cleaning, or CIP systems.
