Reporting directly to the Category Manager, Materials & Maintenance, you will be responsible for the effective management of inventory across TransAlta facilities and the development of the Critical Spares and Materials strategy in support of the Company goals.This role is based out of our Head Office in Downtown CalgaryThis is a full-time, office-based role with the flexibility of a hybrid work schedule (3 days in office & 2 days at home).WHAT YOU WILL DO

  • Review and process purchase requests from internal stakeholders, prepare and issue purchase orders, and maintain accurate documentation on a daily basis.
  • Manage and maintain existing purchase orders, ensuring timely updates and efficient handling of changes.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to optimize inventory levels, balancing supply and demand to minimize both stockouts and excess inventory.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with suppliers and internal stakeholders to ensure smooth collaboration and effective procurement.
  • Handle invoice coding and resolve discrepancies, ensuring accurate and timely payment processing and efficient material delivery through the full lifecycle of purchase orders.
  • Expedite purchase orders to maintain continuity of supply and prevent delays in critical operations.
  • Logistics Responsibilities: Ensure timely coordination and monitoring of shipments, addressing any issues with lost or damaged items in transit. Enforce supplier compliance with shipping instructions and track their performance, taking corrective action as needed to prevent disruptions and ensure alignment with company standards and project timelines.
  • Identify and assess opportunities for cost savings and process improvements that positively impact procurement efficiency and overall operations.
  • Administer transportation and customs-related documentation such as B3s, CARM, Surety Bonds, Duty Drawbacks & Refunds, Customs Compliance, and periodically review CBSA invoice reports for accuracy.
  • Ensure strict adherence to company policies, processes, and work instructions throughout all procurement activities.
  • Utilize analytical skills to assess procurement needs and propose innovative solutions that contribute to operational savings.
  • Provide support to SCM team members as needed, contributing to the overall success of the department.

WHAT WE NEED FROM YOU

  • University degree or relevant professional certification in Supply Chain Management, Procurement, or a related field.
  • 6+ years of experience in procurement, materials management, or supply chain operations.
  • Strong knowledge of strategic sourcing requirements, practices, and cost-saving techniques.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong attention to detail, problem-solving abilities, and organizational skills.
  • Excellent relationship-building skills with both internal stakeholders and external suppliers, with a team-oriented approach.
  • Experience with SAP or other integrated procurement systems is highly desirable. Demonstrated proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite, particularly Excel, for data analysis and reporting.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to identify process improvements and cost-saving opportunities.
  • High-level understanding of procurement documentation and compliance requirements (e.g., B3s, CARM, Customs Compliance).
