This is an opportunity to be at the forefront of protecting sensitive data and enhancing cybersecurity measures across the organization, while driving compliance efforts in a dynamic environment with opportunities for professional growth.In this newly created role, you will ensure that the organization complies with privacy laws and regulations while safeguarding sensitive information through robust data security controls. You will navigate complex privacy and data protection issues, drive compliance efforts, and contribute to cybersecurity initiatives. As a Privacy Specialist, you will provide expert guidance on data protection matters, recommend mitigation strategies, and foster a culture of privacy compliance and data security throughout the organization.Key Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to the development of a Security Data Governance framework, ensuring the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of data assets
  • Monitor compliance with privacy regulations (e.g., FIPPA, PIPA) and conduct risk assessments to identify and close compliance gaps
  • Conduct Privacy Impact Assessments (PIAs) for new projects and systems to integrate privacy and security into design and implementation
  • Assess cybersecurity and data loss risks, and provide recommendations to mitigate potential threats to personal information.
  • Contribute to data governance by collaborating with stakeholders to establish secure data handling practices, data classification standards, and access controls
  • Lead or support incident response efforts in the event of a data breach, ensuring timely investigation, mitigation, and reporting of the incident
  • Promote a strong culture of data protection and cybersecurity awareness across the organization
  • Collaborate with procurement and leadership teams to ensure vendor and service provider contracts comply with privacy and cybersecurity requirements

What you will bring:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Law, Privacy, Computer Science, Information Management, or a related field
  • 5-7 years of experience in privacy, cybersecurity, audit, and data protection, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Proven experience in developing and implementing Security Data Governance programs, conducting PIAs, and managing incident response
  • IAAP, GDPR, or CISSP certification is an asset
  • Experience working in the public safety sector is an asset
  • Strong understanding of privacy regulations, data protection laws, and best practices related to cybersecurity and data loss prevention
  • Familiarity with IT governance and cybersecurity frameworks, including how privacy and security intersect with business needs
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to provide guidance on privacy and data security across all levels of the organization
  • Proficient in creating detailed reports and documentation related to privacy and data protection efforts
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage competing deadlines
  • Ability to stay informed about emerging technologies, cybersecurity threats, and evolving best practices in data protection and DLP
  • Strong analytical skills for assessing privacy risks, interpreting legal and technical requirements, and developing practical solutions
  • Familiarity with project management methodologies, and the ability to participate in cybersecurity and privacy-focused projects

SECURITY REQUIREMENTS:As a condition of employment at E-Comm, the required Police Security Clearance applicable to the position must be acquired and maintained. This is a process carried out by our law enforcement partner agencies, facilitated by E-Comm. The minimum residency in Canada to qualify for this position, as established by our law enforcement partner agencies, is 5 years.To qualify for this process, a candidate may be either a Canadian Permanent Resident or Canadian Citizen.
