We give our students a blend of academic theory and work integrated learning opportunities and in turn, they graduate as high achievers with the ability to be their best.About the Placement Advisor RoleReporting to the Manager, Work-Integrated Learning, the Placement Advisor is the key conduit for contributing to the strategic plan to foster career-ready citizens. The Placement Advisor is responsible for providing essential support and services to all students in programs with Work-Integrated Learning (WIL) embedded in the curriculum throughout the Longo Faculty of Business; they are also responsible for supporting the Global Polytechnic mission of the institution through the development and ongoing nurturing of industry partnerships that are integral to the delivery of WIL which could lead to other strategic partnerships such as applied research.To ensure that students have high quality experiences that build on their curriculum and prepare them for their chosen careers, the incumbent assists and prepares students for their placements through a range of activities including but not limited to delivering work-preparation workshops, resume feedback, mock interviews, job search coaching and advising. This individual must have knowledge of specific programs within the Faculty.The incumbent will promote Faculty programs to external stakeholders, work with employers to develop placement opportunities, review job postings, set up networking events and refer students to prospective employers.The incumbent works with all students in programs with a Work-Integrated Learning component and must keep track of pre-placement documentation, guide student efforts to secure a placement, and monitor students once they are in the workplace and registered in the WIL section. Through one-on-one meetings with students, the incumbent advises students on methods and techniques to secure a placement and/or helps the student access other supports at Humber.QualificationsAbout you:You are passionate about working at Ontario’s largest polytechnic college; you thrive on improving productivity and quality that contribute to team success! If this sounds like you, keep reading:EducationThe successful candidate will hold a four-year degree or equivalent in Business, Human Resources or Career DevelopmentExperienceMinimum of 3 years in one or more of the following areas: college coop or field placement, human resources, staffing or employment services and/or related industry experience.Skills

  • Exceptional communication, interpersonal, organizational, presentation and planning skills. Able to communicate effectively with a diverse student population and at all levels in an employer organization
  • A goal/results focused individual, with the ability to balance and handle competing priorities in a high-volume placement environment, and work with minimal supervision
  • Other qualifications include demonstrated ability to listen, empathize, problem solve, exercise good judgment, work with interruptions, and deal with conflicts.
  • Administrative and document tracking skills, attention to detail and accuracy.
  • The incumbent must have strong digital fluency and be able to work with various computer software (MS Office, Contact Management Systems, MyHumber and Blackboard), virtual meetings, events platforms and social media.
  • They must also be able to promote programs, student capabilities and events for the benefit of students and partners.
