(employee will be working with or have access to children or vulnerable adults and requires a Criminal Record Check)Required for Professional RegistrationJob DescriptionIn accordance with the Vision, Purpose, and Values, and strategic direction of the Vancouver Island Health Authority (Island Health) patient and staff safety is a priority and a responsibility shared by everyone; as such, the requirement to continuously improve quality and safety is inherent in all aspects of this position.Reporting to the Director, Manager, or designate, the Nurse Informaticist leads and promotes the integration of computer and communications technologies and clinical change initiatives that automate and/or enhance evidence-based clinical practices, access to patient/client information and clinical documentation via the Electronic Health Record (EHR) in collaboration with clinical operational leaders, service, program, staff and physiciansAs an integral regional member of a multi-disciplinary team, the Nurse Informaticist works to develop and redesign workflow and processes to improve the overall effectiveness, efficiency of Island Health.QUALIFICATIONS:Education, Training And ExperienceGraduation from a recognized nursing program or evidence of an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Registration with BC College of Nurses and Midwives as a practicing RN registrant.Positions in IHealth require three years’ recent related experience in a health care environment, including experience using related computer technology, clinical informatics, clinical change management, and/or project leadership.Positions in Public Health require three years’ recent related experience in a Public Health environment, including experience using related computer technology, clinical informatics, clinical change management, and/or project leadership.Skills And Abilities

  • Demonstrated ability to participate actively within a team structure.
  • Demonstrated skill in developing and maintaining successful working relationships with customers, their families, colleagues, stakeholders, and others.
  • Demonstrated ability to support organizational and/or departmental clinical change management policies and procedures clinical practice process redesign as it pertains to the automation of professional practice.

  • Knowledgeable regarding new trends in clinical practice and information systems.

  • Computer literacy with word processing, spreadsheet, presentation such as Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.

Link to Full Job DescriptionAdditional information for applicantsAmbulatory NI -The IHealth project’s Ambulatory stream focuses on activating all identified Ambulatory Clinics per the IHealth Roadmap. Candidates should have 3-5 years of clinical nursing experience in Acute or Ambulatory care. Leadership experience is valuable due to the extensive engagement and change management involved. While Clinical Informatics experience is preferred, it is not required. The Nurse Informatics role is primarily Monday to Friday, 8:00-16:00, but flexibility is essential. Candidates must be available to work onsite during days, evenings, nights, and on-call during activations, with shifts ranging from 8-12 hours. Travel is also required.”
