New Graduates are immersed in three job rotations within their field to experience a variety of roles within TransAlta and gain exposure to various lines of business. During each 8-month rotation, responsibilities will vary, and you will collaborate with your supervisor to develop performance objectives. Prior to your completion of the New Grad Program, we will consider full-time employment opportunities within TransAlta.This role is based at TransAlta Place, our Head Office in Downtown Calgary. The successful candidate will be expected to start January 2025, or earlier.WHAT YOU WILL DOAs a New Graduate, you will have the opportunity to contribute to various teams, including Corporate Development, Capital Markets & Treasury, Market Analytics, Investment Analysis, and Strategic Finance. Some specific activities include:Assist with financial analysis and other analytical support on all M&A activities including the creation and maintenance of screening-level and full financial models for the early-stage evaluation of potential projects, and the enhancement and maintenance of these models through the various stages of a project through to execution,Assist with ensuring all inputs to financial models have been agreed to and signed off by sponsoring project manager,Assist in delivering accurate analyses of corporate impacts of investment decisions for TransAlta,Preparation of presentation packages, bid packages, bid proposal letters, overviews, reports and presentations for projects,Assist team with market research to identify areas of interest for development activities in North America,Assist project teams with preparing presentation packages and reports for senior management,Performing transaction support functions, such as data room management, Q&A coordination, and coordination of cross-functional due diligence efforts; andPerforming ad hoc analysis, including the creation of financial models and analysis of business trends to support the growth of the business.WHAT WE NEED FROM YOUTo be successful in this role, we are looking for the following must-have qualifications and experience:Successful completion of a bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business, Economics an equivalent program between 2022 and May 2024Strong academic performance as evidenced by your GPAPrior work experience obtained through internship, co-op or summer jobs is an assetWorking towards, or have interest in pursuing a CFA designationExpert in Excel, PowerPoint, and WordDemonstrated experience with a programming language such as VBA, PythonExperience with large data sets in a database environment utilizing Structured Query Language (SQL) is highly desirable for this positionDemonstrates a positive attitude and a willingness to learn and take initiativesPossesses a results-oriented approach to workCritical thinking and ability to identify creative solutions to emerging issues in a timely mannerProven ability to manage and prioritize multiple work tasksEnjoys working on multiple assignments and thrives under pressureKeen attention to detailExcellent interpersonal and organizational skillsGreat written and verbal communication skills, with an ability to process information quickly and communicate in a clear and concise mannerExhibits a strong ability to solve problemsAble to work equally well either within a team or independently with minimal supervisionAn interest in learning TransAlta’s businessNice to HavesFinancial background with an understanding of the principles of financial analysis, key financial metrics that generate value, mergers and acquisitions, greenfield development, and financial statement analysisUnderstanding of valuation techniques and financial metricsKnowledge/experience in financial spreadsheet modelingKnowledge/experience in electricity market fundamentalsKnowledge of TransAlta, its assets, processes, and strategyWe offer our employees comprehensive and flexible benefits, competitive compensation, annual incentives, and a rewards program.
