Job Description: The Canadian Opera Company is now accepting applications for the position of Music Librarian.PURPOSE OF ROLEReporting to the Director of Artistic Operations and Planning, the Music Librarian will source and provide musical material needed by the COC Orchestra, COC Chorus, soloists and staff, including, but not limited to, the following: conducting research on versions and editions of operas, and reporting these findings to those who need the information; negotiating the performing rights for non-public-domain materials; negotiating the rental of materials from publishers; arranging for the purchase of musical materials; and providing instrumentation information to those who need it.AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY

• Ensure that all people involved in a production are aware of the version being used, and the cuts/adjustments being made
• Curate, organize and maintain the paper, audio, and digital materials in the COC Music Library
• To the extent possible, oversee the proofreading of all materials used by all performers
• See that piano-vocal materials match orchestral materials
• See that the principal string players receive parts in a timely manner to allow them to add bowings
• See that these bowings are added to all copies of all string parts
• Oversee the creation of performance materials, whether by hand-copying, photocopying, or by electronic means
• Manage the editing and marking of performance materials
• Serve as liaison with staff members plus visiting conductors and directors regarding cuts and alterations
• Serve as liaison with music director, chorus master, music staff, etc. regarding developments and changes
• Co-ordinate any transpositions that may be required
• Co-ordinate any minor re-orchestrations that may be required due to cuts
• Attend all rehearsals
• Attend performances (this duty is shared with the assistant music librarian)
• Supervise the work of the assistant music librarian and the stage librarian
• Provide reference service for members of the staff and for artists of the Ensemble Studio
