As a key member of the payroll leadership team, reporting to the Senior Manager, Payroll, you will oversee payroll operations to ensure full compliance with legislative requirements, collective agreements, the Employment Standards Act (ESA), and company policies. In this role, you will also be responsible for identifying opportunities to enhance system capabilities and streamline payroll processes for maximum efficiency.If you thrive on conducting detailed analysis and have a proven ability to build strong business relationships, this opportunity is for you!About the Role
- Oversee the bi-weekly payroll process, including reporting and analysis of payroll data.
- Lead and manage staff by assigning tasks, coordinating work, and fostering a supportive team environment.
- Effectively troubleshoot payroll issues, and recommend and implement changes to improve operational efficiency.
- Provide leadership, expert advice, and guidance on payroll-related issues, standards, policies, and procedures.
- Lead payroll-related projects, including the planning and testing of system changes such as CRA requirements, Service Canada updates, Collective Bargaining Agreements, system upgrades, and new initiatives.
- Train, motivate, and develop team members, offering ongoing support and guidance to ensure business and service objectives are achieved.
- Support organizational projects by driving system enhancements and process improvements to maximize overall efficiency and effectiveness.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with internal business partners to facilitate collaboration and support.
About You
- Post-secondary education in business or a related field, with a minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible experience managing payroll systems for a large, unionized employer, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Completion of the Payroll Leadership Professional (PLP) designation from the National Payroll Institute is required.
- Completion of, or actively working towards, a professional accounting designation or equivalent job-related experience.
- Advanced knowledge of payroll administration and legislation, with experience in managing Collective Bargaining Agreements.
- Proven experience with Workday Payroll, including processing, testing, configuration, integrations, and reporting.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a history of progressive development in these areas.
- Demonstrated organizational skills, along with the ability to collaborate effectively and communicate across all levels.
- Initiative, sound judgment, and excellent communication abilities.
- Proven leadership skills with a track record of achieving departmental goals in a team-driven environment.
- Self-motivated with the ability to plan, manage multiple projects, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to quickly adapt to change and build strong, sustainable business relationships.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Access, Excel, and Word.
