We’re united by a shared commitment to excellent and equitable health care.Position OverviewThe Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Program at SBH is committed to a safe and healthy workplace for all employees, patients, visitors and contractors through Occupational Health (OH), Environmental Safety, Disability and WCB Case Management, and Musculoskeletal Injury Prevention.Occupational Health manages and administers an occupational health service within legal and professional parameters which may include: conducting health examinations; assessing the work environment; providing prevention strategies; providing health education and health promotion program; providing counselling interventions and programs; managing the data collection and information systems; conducting health surveillance program; assessment and follow-up of work related injury/illness; participating in return to work planning and monitoring of occupational illness/injury trends; developing education and wellness programs applicable to non-occupational illness trends; program planning/coordination/delivery, policy development and cost-containment strategies.Under the general supervision of Chief Human Resource Officer, the incumbent is responsible for: * General Management – Managing the designated Occupational Health functions for SBH including the efficient utilization and management of human, material and financial resources employed in this operation. Providing leadership in the development, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of systems and goals.

  • Program Management – Developing, implementing and maintaining the Occupational Health program. Researching current trends, demands, emerging issues and needs related to Occupational Health and developing/implementing/modifying Occupational Health programs to meet those needs.
  • Ensuring Compliance/Quality – With government regulations, accreditation standards, and existing Federal and Provincial guidelines and standards in accordance with the goals and values of SBH and the WRHA.
  • Regional Initiatives – Functioning as a member of the management team of OHS with the concomitant authority, responsibility and accountability for decision making relevant to this position. Participating in regional initiatives as requested. Consulting with other disciplines within the OHS team.

Experience

  • Five (5) years’ experience in an Occupational Health and Safety setting or equivalent experience required.
  • 5 years of experience in a leadership capacity:
  • Leading a team OHS specialists to deliver solutions.
  • Collecting and analyzing data, summarizing and presenting information, and making recommendations to leadership.
  • Improve work practices.
  • Managing multiple concurrent projects.
  • Supervising and mentoring others.
  • Experience in research and data analysis.
  • Previous experience in the development/assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of programs, projects, and communication plans.
  • Experience in writing and editing a variety of communication documents, including web-based.
  • Experience in project management, program planning, development and evaluation required.
  • Experience in community health, ambulatory care, critical care or emergency nursing preferred.
  • Finance and budgeting experience an asset.

Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)

  • An undergraduate degree.
  • Disability Management Certification and similar qualifications will be considered an asset.

SPECIAL TRAINING/SKILLS:

  • Advanced preparation in Occupational Health and Safety required.
  • Extensive working knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety policies/protocols/programs specific to:
  • Disability case management, Workers Compensation Board of Manitoba programs and processes.
  • Manitoba Workplace Health & Safety Act and regulations and applicable standards including Hearing Conservation Program.
  • Employee Assistance Program, HEB Manitoba (Healthcare Employees Pension & Benefit Plans) and Critical Incident Stress Management.
  • Occupational Health Nursing including WRHA Immunization and Tuberculin Policy and Canadian Immunization Guide.
  • Human Resources Management training preferred.
  • Computer knowledge and experience with basic database software applications an asset.
  • Formal management training preferred.
