Closing Date: October 8, 2024Position SummaryReporting to the Director Finance, the Manager Financial Reporting & Accounting is responsible for the oversight of the Centre accounting functions including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general accounting. The Manager of Financial Reporting & Accounting is responsible for the preparation of monthly internal financial statement reporting, year-end audit preparation, year-end draft audited financial statements and other legislative corporate reporting.Duties

  • Accomplish accounting human resource objectives by recruiting, training, assigning, scheduling, coaching, and performance management; communicating job expectations; planning, monitoring, appraising, and reviewing job contributions; and enforcing Centre policies and procedures.
  • Maintain and establish financial processes/policies and internal controls to safeguard assets and reputation, for accurate internal financial reporting, and for compliance with legislative requirements including Public Sector Accounting Standards (PSAS), Ontario Hospital Reporting Standards (OHRS)/MIS, and Broader Public Sector directives, etc.
  • Take leadership in the ongoing finance-related integration work with UHN, including alignment of internal controls and financial reporting processes and deliverables.
  • Ensure all remittances, including HST, charitable returns and other government requirements are current, working in partnership with UHN.
  • Lead the Centre’s portion of year-end financial statement audit preparation and year end closing in partnership with UHN’s corporate finance team. Including preparing note support for specific West Park items (e.g. P3’s, restricted assets, etc.)
  • Responsible for the timely and accurate completion of monthly, quarterly and yearend internal corporate financial performance reports. Determine distribution of work among accounting staff, monitor performance.
  • Oversee the monthly account reconciliations for all balance sheet accounts for timeliness and accuracy.
  • Oversee the Centre’s transaction processing and ERP system as well as month-end and year-end closing processes.
  • Collaborate with other finance department management (Manager, Financial Planning and Analysis), for the collection and completeness of analysis for Centre internal financial statements, and support overall department goals and objectives.
  • Oversee Treasury, banking and account management, as well as monitor cash flow and balance sheet performance with particular emphasis on debt and working capital.
  • Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities, reading professional publications, maintaining personal networks, and participating in professional organizational development opportunities.
  • Awareness of conditions and measures that may affect the safety of patients, residents, students, employees, volunteers, physicians and visitors including:
  • Compliance with the safety standards of the hospital and applicable legislation
  • Identification and prevention of safety issues and problems
  • Taking corrective action, where possible
  • Attendance at safety meetings/training/updates in accordance with the Centre’s standards
  • Monitor compliance and dialogue with staff regarding the prevention and identification of safety policies, standards and issues
  • Where applicable, ensure the compliance and awareness of patient safety
  • Recommend and implement operational best practice within Accounting system functions and internal financial statement reporting.

Qualifications

  • University degree in Business administration, accounting or related field required
  • Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) required
  • 5 years related management supervisory experience
  • Working knowledge of MOH reporting
  • Knowledge and demonstrated experience with Ontario Hospital Reporting Standards (OHRS)
  • Ability to facilitate and adapt to change in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong team leadership and team development skills
  • Ability to manage a multitude of tasks effectively
  • Advanced computer skills MS Office (Excel, Word etc), accounting software, business intelligence and other reporting tools
  • Excellent communication, organization and interpersonal abilities
  • Related experience in healthcare or hospital environment preferred
