Title of the Job: Manager, Financial Accounting

Location: North York, ON

Job Description: Job Description:Position Summary:Under the general direction of the Director, Finance – ON, the successful candidate will be responsible for the overall preparation of the financial reporting package, including participating in the financial close process, financial reporting, preparation, and analysis of monthly and annual results, ensuring compliance with policy and procedures, and other daily, monthly, and quarterly ad-hoc finance requirements as necessary.Key Accountabilities:

  • Strong accounting background with experience working with various financial concepts such as debt, leases, IFRS 16, loyalty points, various asset types
  • Supports in the preparation of the financial reporting packages, including monthly and quarterly review of reporting, to Crown corporations, Corporate partners, and the bank (including covenant calculation)
  • Maintains financial reporting system and implements enhancements to enable an efficient reporting
  • Assists in review journal entries and statements prepared by site accounting teams. Prepares and reviews balance sheet reconciliations and prepares bridges for various reporting purposes.
  • Reviews the financial results particularly around month-end and quarterly-end periods, and through the financial results review, identifies and corrects any errors
  • Prepares and assists in review of accounting and financial reporting working papers
  • Responds to and resolves inquiries and issues related to accounting and financial reporting.
  • Assists with treasury functions including the initiation and approval of payments
  • Ability to work in a disbursed environment and support teams geographically, currently across Ontario
  • Liaises and communicates effectively with senior management and all appropriate operational departments
  • Ensures compliance with licensing laws, health and safety and other statutory regulations
  • Performs other duties or manages other finance/accounting-related initiatives as assigned or directed

Education and Qualification Requirements:

  • CPA designation, or suitable combination of education and experience. Public accounting experience preferred.
  • Minimum of 5-6 years of progressive experience in accounting and financial reporting, with 2-3 years of management experience
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel skills including creating macros and other complex formulas.
  • Experience using COGNOS and JDE an asset.
  • Ability to be self-directed and take initiative while working independently and remaining focused on an assignment through to delivery.
  • Ability to work well under pressure in a dynamic and changing environment
