Reporting to the Director Compensation, Benefits and Pension, the incumbent is responsible for assessing, planning and delivering services and solutions to the Concordia community in all matters pertaining to group benefits programs, pension plan administration, disability management, medical accommodations, non-medical leaves and short-term absences.PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage and support the daily operations and ensure service levels are maintained.
  • Responsible for assessing the resource needs, prioritizing, hiring, performance management and providing direction and mentoring to the team
  • Set goals, objectives and priorities for the Benefits and Pension team, aligned with departmental objectives.
  • Ensure compliance with various agreements, collective agreements, HR policies and legislation related to benefits programs, pension Plan administration, disability management, medical accommodations, non-medical leaves and short-term absences.
  • Plan and develop processes and guidelines, training material, workshops and communications for staff and pensioners.
  • Provide guidance and advice for pension administration, disability management, medical accommodations, non-medical leaves and short-term absences, group insurance plans and benefits programs to Human Resources management and personnel as well as the Concordia managers.
  • Represent benefits and pension in various committees as either a member or a key resource person
  • Develop and maintain relationships with external stakeholders (consultants, insurers, etc.) and internal partners.
  • Act as representative for inter-university committee on benefits and pension related matters, attend meetings as the Concordia representative, and respond to all surveys and enquiries.
  • Manage special projects as required.
  • Oversee and review Benefits and Pension content on Carrefour and Pensioner’s Corner.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelors in human resources management or another related discipline or relevant field related to the primary responsibilities and over seven (7) years of experience of which five (5) years are in a leadership role.
  • Designation as a Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRP) or Certified Employee Benefit Specialist (CEBS) an asset.
  • Very good written and spoken English and French (level 5).
  • Demonstrate a good mix of initiative and leadership with minimal supervision
  • In-depth experience in disability management, group benefits and defined benefits pension plan administration.
  • Detailed and current knowledge of legislation, regulations and trends in benefits and pension management
  • Advance level of Excel, Word and PowerPoint; Familiarity with the SAP system an asset.
  • Familiarity with the functionality of HRIS systems.
  • Detailed oriented.
  • Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills.
  • Experience in a unionized environment and higher education, highly desirable.
  • Comfortable working with all levels of management and employee groups.
  • Ability to work with tight deadlines and stressful situations.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
