We are looking for a Supervisor – Day Shift Trades to join our team!What You Will Do

  • Supervises day-to-day activities related to the work in the section (e.g., inspection, installation, rehabilitation, maintenance, construction, equipment repairs, and other systems in the transit tunnels, stations, buildings, and properties). This involves project management activities, administrative duties, program development, ensuring employees are properly trained, along with other responsibilities and duties, as assigned. The work location may vary with assignment
  • Responsible for assisting with the leadership and supervision of the Facilities section’s day shift workforce in order to ensure the structure, building envelope, signage, interior/exterior finishes of the TTC’s surface buildings and above ground portion of the subway stations and the signage and interior finishes of the underground portions of the subway stations are in a state of good repair
  • Assisting with the management of construction projects involving trades from other Plant Maintenance sections and other TTC Departments; this includes condition based maintenance, life cycle replacement, planned and emergency repair work, construction work, project management, quality assurance and performance measures
  • Assisting the Manager, Facilities with short/long term planning, budgeting (operating and capital), staffing, employee safety, environmental compliance, compliance with all applicable safety and building codes/regulations/bylaws, attendance management, tool/material management, and providing control and organization for the activities performed on the night shift.
  • Plan, coordinate, and generally supervise work and staff in the section
  • Create plans and procedures to identify work needed (i.e., to identify all warrantable repairs and the associated work) and implement
  • Review and analyze data, information, procedures, or other methods; make recommendations and/or document as necessary
  • Review systems, processes, and/or documents (e.g., procedures, reports, contracts) to ensure work is conducted up to standard and in the best interests of the TTC
  • Develop and administer standards to ensure efficiency, quality of work, safety, and effective performance

What Qualifications Do You Bring?

  • Completion of a post-secondary college diploma or university degree in a related discipline (i.e. Civil Engineering, Architectural Technology, etc.) or a combination of education, training and experience deemed to be equivalent
  • Directly related experience working on medium to heavy civil construction projects in an urban environment, including progressively responsible experience in a supervisory / management capacity
  • A Certificate of Qualification in a skilled construction trade will be a definite asset
  • Comprehensive knowledge of maintenance and management procedures and techniques applicable to the repair, maintenance, replacement and construction of building facilities.
  • Thorough knowledge of the architectural and structural components related to commercial buildings, maintenance buildings and subway stations and the mechanical equipment that forms the infrastructure of TTC buildings and facilities
  • Working knowledge of computerized maintenance management systems, spreadsheet and database systems, word processing systems (i.e. MS Office, Maximo)
  • Demonstrated ability to plan and direct activities of front line supervisory staff, plus a unionized workforce of semi-skilled and skilled employees
  • Possession of a valid, non-probationary, Province of Ontario, class “G” driver’s license is required and the ability to use a personal vehicle for site inspections
  • Comprehensive knowledge of applicable codes and regulations such as the Occupational Health & Safety Act, Ministry of Environment regulations, Ontario Building Code, Ontario Fire Code, Employment Standards Act Transportation of Dangerous Goods, etc.
  • Must attend and successfully complete the training program for Subway/SRT Rule Book certification, and any other in-house or external courses as directed by management (including recertification as appropriate) encompassing effective supervision, safety, environmental and technical courses related to the work
  • Must have or must rapidly acquire sound knowledge of the policies and procedures applicable to the Toronto Transit Commission and the Plant Maintenance Department
  • Must become familiar with relevant sections of ATU Local 113 collective agreement, seniority regulations etc.
