SummaryAt Rostel Industries, Journeyman Machinists are responsible for setting up and operating precision metal cutting and grinding machines such as lathes, milling machines, drills, and grinders to make and repair products made from metals, such as oilfield rig machinery and mechanical equipment. The Journeyman Machinist is expected to act as a liaison to the Lead Hand to ensure that all products and projects are produced and completed in a high-quality and efficient manner.Responsibilities

  • Machine rig equipment and mechanical components to precise engineering drawings and renderings using Alloy materials (4140,4145,4130, C1018, C1045) Plates (44W, 50W, QT100) Stainless (316, 304) Bronze (660) Aluminum, Plastic (Blue nylon, Black Nylon UHMW) and Structural Steel
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, charts, and tables or study sample parts to determine the machining operation to be performed and plan the best sequence of operations
  • Compute dimensions and tolerances and measure and lay out work pieces
  • Set up, operate, and maintain a variety of machine tools, including computer numerically controlled (CNC) tools to perform precision, non-repetitive machining operations such as threading, sawing, turning, milling, boring, planning, drilling, precision grinding, and other operations
  • Fit and assemble machined metal parts and subassemblies using hand and power tools
  • Verify dimensions of products for accuracy and conformance to specifications using precision measuring instruments
  • Set up and program machine tools for use by machining tool operators
  • Verify dimensions of machined parts or tooling using micrometers, verniers, calipers, height gauges, optical comparators, coordinate measuring machines (CMM), or other specialized measuring instruments
  • Maintain, repair, and calibrate precision measuring instruments such as dial indicators, fixed gauges, height gauges, and other measuring devices
  • Complete and maintain inspection reports
  • Assist with standard shop housekeeping and upkeep on an ad hoc basis
  • Must be willing to work in and participate in safety conscious environment
  • Must be motivated and have good communication skills
  • Candidate must have a positive attitude with the ability to work well with others and on their own
  • Produce quality products based on engineering drawings with minimal defects
