The successful candidate will be proactive, have a strong work ethic and an ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.RESPONSIBILITIES
- Organizes and manages litigation files.
- Calculates litigation time lines, maintains due case reports and ensures deadlines are met.
- Liaises with clients, administrative assistants and professionals.
- Drafts or assists in drafting court documents such as Affidavits, Motions, Affidavits of Documents, Bills of Cost, etc.
- Creates a document database, cross-references production and exhibit documents and maintains copies of transcripts for searching purposes using litigation software such as Relativity
- Organizes cases for trials; assists in setting up courtrooms and electronic access during trials.
- Provides litigation support prior to and during trials and hearings. Organizes attendance of witnesses.
- Reviews transcripts to summarize and prepare lists of outstanding items.
- Assembles answers to undertakings.
- Files and serves documents in Canada and arranges for services abroad.
- Prepares charts, chronologies and summaries of documentary evidence for use on discovery and trial.
- Attends before Federal Courts Registry to review or file Court documents.
- Any other duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Law Clerk diploma and a minimum of five years of legal experience as a Law Clerk/Paralegal combined with knowledge of current legal policies and procedures.
- Experience with Federal and Provincial Court.
- Expertise in Microsoft Office Suite (particularly Word and Excel), Kofax and Adobe
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Strong organizational, time management and problem-solving skills.
- Experience in Relativity.
- The ability to effectively handle large volumes of work.
- The ability to work independently as well as actively participate in and support a large team.
- Bilingualism (English/French) would be an asset.
