Job Description: Workplace: 666 Sherbrooke Street West, Montreal, Quebec, Canada, H3A 1E7Status: Full-timeRemote work: NoResponsibilities:
- Participate in drafting, reviewing, and negotiating various types of commercial contracts, including commercial leases, service agreements, purchase or sale contracts, license agreements, confidentiality agreements, letters of intent, etc.
- Provide legal support to various units and commercial operations of the company regarding contract interpretation, including collective agreements when applicable
- Participate in due diligence processes for the purchase or sale of real estate and/or refinancing of buildings
- Draft various legal documents such as formal notices, introductory proceedings, case protocols, settlement and release agreements, permit applications, corporate resolutions, powers of attorney, etc.
- Manage and supervise litigation and contentious cases, collaborating with external lawyers when required
- Collaborate in reviewing and updating internal company policies to ensure compliance with various regulations and legislation
- If necessary, make representations to the Administrative Housing Tribunal in connection with residential property leases
- Collaborate with other members of the legal affairs team to organize support for internal business units and improve processes, including managing and updating precedents
- Monitor and stay informed of legal developments and legislative changes that may impact the company, its operations, and objectives
- Conduct background checks for the human resources department prior to hiring potential employees
- Ensure the filing of annual declarations with the Enterprise Register and any other governmental authority
- Perform legal research (Soquij, Canlii, Enterprise Register, Land Register)
- Work on special projects that may be occasionally assigned to support the legal department
- Perform all other related legal tasks
Qualifications:
- Member of the Quebec Bar
- Two (2) years of experience in business law (in a firm or in-house)
- Skills in writing, negotiation, communication, research, and analysis
- Fluency in French and English, both oral and written
- Computer skills (Office suite and electronic legal research)
- Experience in real estate law is an asset
