Our aim is to help everyone reach their full potential and achieve their personal and professional goals.Our diverse group of legal professionals, law students, law clerks, paralegals, legal administrative assistants and business services team members work together, and are respected and valued for their individual contributions.PROFILEWe are currently seeking a detail-oriented individual to join the Advocacy department (Medical Defence) in the role of Case Management Law Clerk.Based in the Ottawa office, the successful candidate will work with a collegial team of lawyers, law clerks and assistants to provide superior service to our client and external partners. This practice suits those committed to working at a consistent high level and with an ability to think critically and exercise judgment.RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist with the management and analysis of a large portfolio of medical defence files.
- Review and prioritize incoming correspondence from the client(s) and counsel.
- Enter and manage detailed information on files in proprietary database.
- Review and monitor files for progress and input.
- Liaise with client representatives, external counsel and team members.
- Draft correspondence to client and counsel on both routine and substantive issues.
- Conduct research and monitor developments in health law legislation and policy.
- Assist with the development and maintenance of resource database of health law materials.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Relevant post-secondary education including but not necessarily a Law Clerk diploma or BA.
- Experience in a legal or other office environment. Experience with databases or quality control work is an asset.
- Familiarity with legal processes is an asset.
- Excellent computer skills and ability to learn new applications quickly.
- Strong organizational and prioritization skills.
- Exceptional attention to detail.
- The ability to effectively handle large volumes of work and adapt to new processes.
- Capacity to work independently as well as actively participate in and support a team.
- French bilingualism would be considered a strong asset, but other candidates will be considered.
