Title of the Job: Labourer II, Muttart Conservatory

Location: Edmonton, AB

Job Description: Do you love working with plants? Working in a horticulture environment? By joining the dedicated team at the Muttart Conservatory you will be responsible for providing full facility seasonal maintenance indoors and out, occasional customer service and conducting various tasks to support other staff in the pyramids greenhouses. This position includes working Wednesday and Thursday evenings until 9pm and weekends until 5pm.What will you do?

  • Help the team with a vast majority of horticulture tasks by providing a high standard of care, attention to detail and good work ethic to maintain the plant collection and the displays
  • Provide assistance with plant sales, for retail and the annual plant sale
  • Provide professional and helpful customer service to Muttart guests
  • Perform operational coverage on Wednesday and Thursday evenings until 9pm and weekend shifts until 5pm
  • Help maintain plant material throughout the facility, including out of facility contracts by dusting, trimming, deadheading, replacing, repotting and watering
  • Perform seasonal maintenance for the facility, indoors and outdoors including snow removal and applying ice melt
  • Maintain the cleanliness of the facility, work stations and greenhouses
  • Set up and take down equipment for facility events, show changes, programs and other activities
  • Work in a fast paced and time sensitive environment with fluctuating temperatures. Perform duties as required to keep the facility clean and safe

Qualifications

  • Completion of Grade 10
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience and knowledge of how to maintain plant health

Asset:

  • Horticultural experience or course work

  • Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions
  • Demonstrated ability to manage time and multitask activities effectively
  • Ability to provide quality customer service to all levels of the public and the organization
  • Strength, dexterity and ability to stand for long periods of time

  • Valid Alberta Class 5 driver’s license (or provincial equivalent).Obtaining and maintaining a City Driver’s permit is a requirement of this position
