This unique role combines responsibilities from both geomorphology and biology disciplines, offering a dynamic and interdisciplinary work environment. The successful candidate will be a self-motivating individual with strong analytical, computational, and problem-solving abilities, ready to grow with us and join a great team!Responsibilities:

  • Conduct field assessments including wetland delineations, habitat assessments for rare, threatened, or endangered flora and fauna, and stream restoration projects based on channel processes.
  • Collect and analyse chemical and biological data, including sampling of surface water, sediment, macroinvertebrates, soil, groundwater, etc., for site assessment and risk assessment projects.
  • Undertake corridor and crossing studies to identify risks from natural hazards and provide support to stream restoration projects.
  • Prepare initial drafts of correspondence, reports, work plans, specifications, and environmental reports for internal and external review.
  • Coordinate and implement field data collection exercises, including data synthesis and monitoring studies, with some supervision.
  • Work with various forms of spatial information, including digital topographic data and aerial imagery.
  • Assist in the completion of monitoring studies and the construction implementation of channel restoration designs.
  • Support existing clients with the implementation of efficient and innovative solutions to address their project needs.
  • Establish and develop strategic long-term relationships with current clients, new clients, and prospective teaming partners.
  • Propose field problems/work changes for review and travel as required for various field programs.

Skills, Proficiencies, and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree in Environmental Science, Physical Geography, Geomorphology, Biology, Ecology, or a related field.
  • 0-2 years of professional environmental experience (i.e., stream, wetland, and environmental surveys, sampling, permitting, etc.).
  • Ability to work towards acquiring a Professional Geoscientist (P.Geo.) accreditation in Geomorphology or Professional Engineering (P.Eng.) license in the Province of Ontario.
  • Demonstrated scientific skills in field data collection, river mechanics, sediment transport, geomorphic processes, and hydraulics.
  • Familiarity with local, state, and federal environmental regulations and permitting requirements.
  • Experience in related aspects of water resources, including environmental geoscience, biogeography, aquatic and ecological sciences, is considered an asset.
  • Working familiarity with digital cartography (GIS), airphoto interpretation/manipulation, and field surveys (total station, RTK) will be considered an asset.
  • Strong communication skills with the proven track record to present clearly and promote understanding through effective verbal, written, and listening skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize projects and tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Possess strong digital literacy: Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook. AutoCAD or hydraulic model software experience would be an asset.
  • Valid G driver’s license.
  • Able and willing to travel to job sites as needed for field activities.
