Closing Date: October 17, 2024JOB SUMMARYThe Investigations Branch is looking for a highly energetic, dynamic, professional and career orientated individual to join our Gaming Investigations Unit South as an investigator.Reporting to the Supervisor Investigations/South, the successful candidate will investigate offenses related to Part VII of the Criminal Code, (i.e. frauds, theft, forgeries, cheat at play related to gaming revenues), section 121.1 CC (offenses related to contraband tobacco) and lastly offences related to the Cannabis Act and section 462.3 CC (Proceeds of Crime as it related to cannabis offences). Additionally offenses pursuant to the Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis Act and Regulations, Fuel Tax Act, Provincial Offenses Procedure Act, Tobacco Smoking and Reduction Act, Tobacco Tax Act, Tourism Levy Act and the Traffic Safety Act.The Investigator will prepare reports, court briefs, search warrants, swear criminal charges and gives evidence in court proceedings and AGLC Board hearings. They conduct security reviews of casinos, Racing Entertainment Center’s, Gaming Entertainment Center’s and Bingos. As a member of the Integrated Investigations Team participates in criminal investigations into illegal activities impacting lawful gaming (i.e. common gaming houses, bookmaking, loan sharking, unlicensed lottery schemes and internet gaming).The investigator will provide support to the AML unit by ensuring compliance with the Proceeds of Crime (Money Laundering) and Terrorist Financing Act and associated regulations, FINTRAC compliance requirements and AGLC policies and procedures related to the detection and deterrence of money laundering and terrorist financing within Casino’s and REC’sThe incumbent will also liaise with RCMP and municipal police services, provincial and federal government departments and the business community. Knowledge and compliance of the Peace Officer Act and Peace Officer Regulations is required. Professionalism is essential as this role will involve responding to public and government enquiries relating to gaming.SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Minimum of a post-secondary diploma in law enforcement/ investigations or criminology supplemented by investigative related courses or a minimum of 5 years inspection or a law enforcement investigative experience.
  • Equivalency: Directly related experience considered on the basis of 1 year of experience for 1 year of education or 1 year of education for 1 year of experience.
  • Experience in conducting investigations and inspections, gathering of evidence and presentation of evidence in court proceedings.
  • Experience and demonstrated ability to work as an individual or in a team environment, as required, while conducting investigations.
  • Prior experience as a Police Officer / Peace Officer will be considered an asset.
  • A valid Alberta Operator’s License is required as you will be subject to travel throughout the Province of Alberta, with some overnight travel required. Flexibility in work schedule will be required
  • Must be able to successfully obtain Alberta Peace Officer status
  • Ability to interview complainants, witnesses and suspects
  • Time management skills while conducting a thorough investigation.
