The primary focus of this position is to drive business development, promote client satisfaction, provide leadership, and contribute to strategic planning for GHD’s Indigenous services and relations in Canada. The successful candidate will have a deep understanding of Indigenous cultures, strong communication skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse Rightsholders and stakeholders. This is a new role within the GHD Canadian business; we are looking for someone willing to grow and develop together in our organization to foster and create with our clients lasting community benefit.   • Lead the ongoing development and implementation of GHD’s Indigenous Services and Business Strategy. This includes the identification and development of mutually beneficial partnerships with Indigenous businesses and governments; overseeing the implementation of GHD’s Indigenous employment strategy; building relationships with Provincial, Territorial, Federal, and Indigenous clients involved in the delivery of Indigenous community projects; assisting in the preparation of key bids; and assisting in the implementation of GHD’s Canadian Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) and annual updates.
  • Influence GHD’s Indigenous relations policies, including the RAP, procurement policies, and education and training programs.
  • Identify and develop a GHD Advisory service to clients in the areas of Indigenous participation, policy development, and/or compliance and procurement of Indigenous business services.
  • Serve as a senior advisor, fostering the growth of new and existing client relationships.

Business Development:

  • Collaborate closely with Indigenous, Federal, Provincial, and Territorial government agencies to identify and leverage new opportunities.
  • Provide expert advisory services to internal teams.
  • Cultivate opportunities for GHD to collaborate with Indigenous leaders and communities.
  • Establish strong relationships with Indigenous contractors and lead the development of alliances for project acquisition and delivery.
  • Support bids for projects.
  • Assist in business development activities, including marketing initiatives, development of key performance indicators (KPIs), and communication efforts.
  • Expand GHD’s relationships with relevant research groups, government agencies, and industry bodies.
  • Develop agreed-upon KPIs for target clients and projects in collaboration with Service Line Leaders and Market Leaders.
  • Enhance success rates and business sector income in the target market by assuming the project director role for significant proposals.

Client Focus & Delivery:

  • Act as a key decision-maker in coordinating resources for the delivery of Indigenous community projects across Canada, while also leading aspects of projects.
  • Promote and strengthen relationships with existing and potential clients to foster repeat business; participate in Client Care visits.
  • Provide project support and delivery assistance to the existing stakeholder and Rightsholder engagement business.
  • Oversee, lead, or assist in delivering projects as necessary.

Leadership:

  • Communicate and promote the vision, generating enthusiasm and commitment among team members.
  • Translate organizational strategy into meaningful long-term plans and objectives.
  • Motivate others to deliver against goals.
  • Demonstrate strong leadership and foster an open, honest, collaborative, and progressive work culture with a focus on health, safety (including psychological safety), and the environment.
  • Collaborate with Client Relationship Managers, Service Line Leaders, and Market Leaders to further develop the business.

Strategic Planning:

  • Develop and implement a strategic vision/strategy for the growth of GHD’s Indigenous services over the next 5 to 10 years.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of strategic plans to improve GHD’s market penetration and share in related sectors.
  • Enhance the service integration business model by establishing and managing necessary management processes and tools to ensure effective governance, integration, and coordination. for maximizing value to clients.
  • Ensure GHD’s product and service offerings are aligned with target market needs, and develop new offerings as required.
  • Identify and recruit key strategic appointments.
  • Identify strategic mergers and acquisitions opportunities.

People Management / Capability Development:

  • Establish succession planning, and recruitment strategies to meet GHD’s project needs.
  • Coach, mentor, and develop staff members to create high-performing teams.
  • Build, develop, and enhance internal capabilities to ensure alignment of knowledge, skills, experience, processes, and systems for effective product and service delivery.
  • Cultivate, develop, and manage external strategic partnerships with alternative service providers.
  • Foster a strong working relationship with GHD’s Stakeholder and Rightsholder Engagement Team.
  • Build effective relationships with other Team Leaders, Business Group Managers, and Client Relationship Managers.

What you bring to GHD:

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field; MBA would be considered an asset.
  • Firsthand Indigenous lived experience and/or extensive experience working with Indigenous Peoples, for Indigenous Nations, or in Indigenous relationship management.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Indigenous history, cultures, and governance, including leading practices in Indigenous engagement.
  • Strong existing relationships in at least one or more industry segments in which GHD operates.
  • Proven ability to establish and maintain collaborative partnerships with Indigenous leaders, communities, contractors, government agencies, and industry stakeholders.
  • Track record of success in business development, including a proven ability to identify and capitalize on new opportunities.
  • Experience in nurturing and growing client relationships, with a focus on expanding business within the Indigenous services sector.
  • Previous experience leading teams on projects, demonstrating effective project management skills and the ability to deliver successful outcomes.
  • Familiarity with coordinating resources and managing budgets and ensuring project delivery aligns with client expectations.
  • Strong collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders and Rightsholders, including Indigenous communities, internal teams, government agencies, and industry partners.
  • Proven track record of fostering open communication, building consensus, and driving collaborative decision-making
  • Promote effective communication, awareness, and thought leadership internally and externally through various channels such as teleconferences, newsletters, GHD news, and conference presentations.
  • Provide monthly reporting of activities to the Canadian Leadership Team.
