To achieve this goal, we engage in both curiosity-driven and community-driven inquiry, and are committed to productive knowledge exchange.The Collaborative Applied Research for Equity in Health Policy & Systems Research Lab is an applied health policy and systems research program that tackles complex public health priorities and health system challenges by collaborating with policy- and decision-makers, practitioners, and communities to support evidence-informed decisions and applied interventions that improve health and health equity.PositionThis position supports the implementation of a novel Indigenous Support Hub model in primary care for Indigenous patients to reduce health inequities. Reporting to the Principal Investigator and working closely with the research team, the Implementation Research Coordinator will assist with project management, promoting the Indigenous Support Hub to Primary Care Network (PCN) partners, and documenting the progress of the Hub’s implementation in PCNs.This position requires someone with strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills who is relationship-oriented with experience in community-based participatory research, ideally in the field of Indigenous health. In this role, you will engage regularly with the research team, Indigenous-focused primary healthcare providers, and Indigenous support hub workers.Note: This position is based on North Campus, but will be a hybrid of working from home, office, and in the field. There is a requirement to travel by vehicle or by air to participating research sites.DutiesProject Management & Administration
- Track the progress of project milestones throughout the life cycle of a project, providing regular updates to the Principal Investigator
- Assist the research team with the preparation of research ethics applications, amendments, and protocols (e.g. surveys, questionnaires, focus groups)
- Coordinate the establishment of the Practice Advisory Committee of health professionals and Indigenous support workers; coordinate regular meetings and facilitate ongoing engagement
- Develop and prepare information packages for distribution or handouts at presentations
- Assist with project coordination for other Indigenous Primary Health Care and Policy Research (IPHCPR) Network research activities as needed
Engagement & Research Activities with Primary Care Network (PCN) Partners
- Build relationships with each PCN partner site by contacting PCN Executive Directors to discuss the study design and implementation activities
- Provide information sessions and packages to PCN-affiliated clinics and staff to promote the implementation of the Indigenous Support Hub model
- Maintain regular contact with PCN site champions with regular site visits to support each PCN’s implementation goals
- Support the implementation of the Indigenous Support Hub by assisting with administering surveys and coordinating semi-structured interviews with Indigenous-focused primary health care providers and focus groups with Indigenous Support Workers
Research Documentation
- Develop and maintain a program binder of the study procedures and the implementation process of the Indigenous Support Hub
- Attend all Research Advisory Committee meetings and assist with note-taking
- Attend the Practice Advisory Committee meetings to take detailed notes about the learning process, e.g. how members share knowledge and provide peer support to facilitate capacity-building
- Work closely with the research team to ensure proper documentation of the research activities, evaluation outcomes, data quality issues, and secure storage of the research documents
- Participate in the preparation and write-up of infographics, posters, reports and manuscripts
Minimum Qualifications
- Postsecondary degree in a related discipline such as Social Sciences, Health Services Administration, Community Engagement, and/or Interdisciplinary Studies; equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered
- 1 to 2 years experience in community-based participatory research and/or community engagement; experience with Indigenous communities would be an asset
- 2 years experience establishing trusting relationships with stakeholders and/or managing complex partnerships
- 5 years progressively responsible experience in business, healthcare, and/or research
- Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and participants as well as independently with minimal supervision
- Excellent communication (written and oral) and interpersonal skills
- Strong organizational skills, with an ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
- Demonstrated attention to detail and high levels of accuracy
- Ability to work efficiently in a professional and ethical manner in accordance with policies and procedures of both University of Alberta and Alberta Health Services
- Computer proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint), Google apps, data management software (REDCap)
- Must have a valid Class 5 Alberta driver’s licence and access to a reliable vehicle
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with ethics submissions for human research participants, manuscript editing, and annual reports or related academic writing
- Experience in community-based participatory research
- Familiar with Alberta Health Care system and/or principles of integrated care
- Direct experience working with Indigenous people, organizations, and/or communities
- Familiar with Tri-Council Policy for Conducting Research with Indigenous Peoples
