The Libraries’ data centre houses more than 600 servers with a storage capacity of 1.5 petabytes.About the Engineering & Computer Science LibraryThe Engineering & Computer Science Library (ECSL) supports the research, teaching, and learning needs of the Faculty of Applied Science & Engineering, which is composed of and the in the Faculty of Arts and Science. The ECSL staff complement includes librarians, library technicians and student casual staff. ECSL is located on the St. George campus and is the second largest science library in the University of Toronto Libraries system.The OpportunityThe Head is responsible for:

• leadership, vision, strategic direction, budgeting, and management of the Engineering & Computer Science Library
• reviewing and assessing user-focused public services, establishing priorities, and developing service plans that enhance and support the academic mission of the University
• fostering an environment of collaboration, creative thinking, and continuous improvement
• providing leadership for ECSL scholarly communication and research data management initiatives
• building strong links between and across disciplines and departments
• oversight of collection development in ECSL and collaborating with UTL colleagues involved in collection development
• direct supervision of the work of librarians, and CUPE1230 full-time staff and indirect supervision of student casual employees
• working with the building manager when space related issues arise

This position reports to the Associate Chief Librarian for Science Research and Information.As a collegial member of the library team, the Head will directly participate in library activities, including research support, teaching, and collection development.Required Qualifications

• Master’s degree in library, archival or information science from an accredited institution
• Demonstrated leadership skills
• Demonstrated commitment to the values of inclusivity, diversity, equity and accessibility and anti-racism
• Relevant administrative, managerial and supervisory experience
• Strong organizational, budget management, planning, and project management
• Capacity to thrive in an environment of change and to respond effectively to shifting needs and priorities
• Knowledge of initiatives and trends related to the evolving scholarly communication landscape and research in science fields
• Demonstrated ability to work creatively and effectively with faculty, staff, and students
• Commitment to proactive and innovative information services
• Strong service commitment as well as an interest in and understanding of the needs of the engineering and computer science community
• Demonstrated ability to work independently, as well as collaboratively as a member of a team
• Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
• Experience in the provision of services such as research support, instruction, selection, and liaison work for academic and research communities
• The successful candidate must qualify for appointment at a Librarian III rank

Preferred Qualifications

• Academic background in the sciences or engineering or equivalent library professional or work experience in these subject areas

Salary and Terms of AppointmentThis is a permanent status stream position. It is anticipated that this position will be filled at the Librarian III or IV level, subject to review and experience. Minimum salary: LIB III: $102,023; LIB IV: $120, 209 (Salary is dependent on rank at hire and qualifications).
