Hardware Engineer – Actalent

Title of the Job: Hardware Engineer

Location: Ottawa, ON

Job Description: Job Description:The primary responsibility of the Hardware Engineer will be to design optical modules for datacenter, metro and core applications. Proven competency in the areas of signal integrity management utilizing Ansys HFSS/Keysight ADS would be highly desirable. You will need to ensure signal integrity is right on the PCBA and work on Optical module speeds that range from10gb/s to 200gb/s.

• High proficiency with the use schematic design tools (e.g. Allegro) and EM simulation tools (HFSS/ADS)

• Experience with high-speed RF measurements and characterization equipment

• Strong fundamentals in EM and RF such as impedance matching, S-parameters

• Working experience of optical transceivers in a bonus

• Programming skills in LabView, Python, or Matlab for test purposes is a bonus. Circuit design and high speed simulations utilizing Ansys “HFFS” 3D solver or

Keysight ADS

• Develop block diagrams and schematics from initial concept phase

• Responsible for the specification, design, test, integration and release of new products to production

• Create Hardware Unit Design Specification and test plan

• Work cross functionally within all R&D disciplines in order to meet design objectives

• Provide engineering support for designs in production and transfer of products to contract manufacturers

• Provide guidance to CAD designer’s during PCB design

• Work closely with layout engineer

• Work closely with the FPGA/FW/Test engineering team during integration phase of the product

• Demonstrated ability to complete the full product design life cycle on a portion of the system involving multiple components.

• Capable of working independently on the assigned design activities with minimal supervision.

• Comprehensive understanding of the product architecture, design, processes, tools, etc. required to perform their assigned design activities.

• Operating at the equivalent of an engineer with 5 plus years of relevant experience.

• Other duties as assigned

Skills/Qualifications/Training/Experience

• BS or MS in electrical engineering or Physics.

• Mentor Graphics DxDesigner (schematics), Hyperlynx (SI, PI), SW proficiency a plus.

• Experience with coherent optical systems a plus.

• Spectrum Analyzer, Network Analyzer, Logic, Analyzer, Function Generator, BER test sets

• Minimum of 5 years’ experience in the area of high-speed board design.

• Knowledge of optical component reliability and telecom performance standards such as Telcordia, IEC, and ITU are highly desirable.

• Experience in fiber optics test and measurements.

• Microsoft Office
