As a Mountain Adventure Educator at Grouse Mountain, you will lead groups of students and/or adults educating them about our education programs as part of the Grouse Mountain Refuge for Endangered Wildlife program. You will share your knowledge of nature and passion for outdoor recreation, and teach curriculum outside in the natural beautiful setting of Grouse Mountain.
Essential Job Functions:Demonstrate an approach to work consistent with Grouse Mountain Resorts’ goals, values, policies and procedures
Deliver and lead an energetic, fun, educational experience for people of all ages, which may include (but is not limited to) educational curriculum, wildlife programs, first nation’s history and culture, experiential activities and games
Follow a detailed schedule and timeline effectively for groups’ activities to ensure synchronicity with multiple groups around the mountain
Recognize and address concerns or needs of group or guests & liaise with manager, supervisor and/or other departments thinking critically and make calculated decisions, always putting safety firstConsistently offer professional and engaging leadership for all age groups and backgrounds
Set up and take down of equipment, maintain cleanliness of all areas used
Arrive fit for work and take responsibility for your personal health and safety
Act as a role model for guests in sustainable living and inspire awareness and nature curiosity through your actions and teachings
Be a lively, passionate, and energizing group leader fostering an all-inclusive learning environment in natureOccasional office support as needed and other duties as requiredRequired Qualifications and AbilitiesPost-secondary courses in Education, Environmental management, Outdoor Recreation and/or Sciences (Biology/Environmental Studies or related majors) preferred
Experience and/or qualifications preferred in at least 2 of the following areas: Outdoor Education, First Nations, Wildlife/Ecology, Physical Education, Health/Wellness, Sustainability, Tourism, Experiential Education, leadershipAwareness and demonstrate sensitivity towards British Columbia’s rich First Nations history and culture
Ability to safely lift 40 pounds repetitively for set-up of some types of equipment, example-snowshoes
Physical and mental endurance, ability to stand on your feet for the duration of your shift, and hike or snowshoe for 2 hours at a time.
Ability to work independently with limited supervision, with a partner, or in a team
Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English. French, Spanish, Mandarin and/or other languages are an assetTraining is provided; all candidates must be available for ongoing training
Successful candidate must complete a criminal record check once offered the position, before start date (19 years of age or over. Grouse Mountain will assist you with the process.)Working Conditions
Hours of Operation are weather dependent. Due to the nature of the business, this position requires flexibility in terms of your work schedule. Must be available to work consistently 2-3 days a week, flexible availability, with daytime/school hours, occasional weekend and evening shifts required. Shifts require standing for long periods of time, lifting, twisting, shoveling and other forms of manual tasks, which may have to be conducted outside in all weather conditions.Compensation and BenefitsStarting at $18.40/hour up to $21.52/hourAll positions are eligible for the following benefits and perks:Free Seasonal Access Pass
