The ideal candidate has a strong technical background paired with demonstrated communication skills, both written and via presentations. The role requires a nuanced understanding of the value quantitative and fundamental portfolio management techniques bring, as well as the communication skills to distill the value down into meaningful narratives to less technical stakeholders, both internal and external. This position reports to the VP, ETF Product Strategy. The ETF Capital Markets Specialist will also provide input to strategic direction, develop thought leadership, and interact with the portfolio management teams around the positioning of Mackenzie’s ETFs. They will play an active and important role in support of Mackenzie’s growth in the following areas:Product Management

  • Competitive Analysis – Analyzing assets and flows, competitive performance, and positioning in both Canadian and global markets
  • Understand investment strategies, performance, and attribution analysis
  • Develop proactive insights, product training, and support to sales teams in collaboration with ETF product team members and other Investment Directors
  • Coordinate with portfolio management, sales, and marketing to ensure and communicate consistent product positioning and messaging
  • Develop long-term strategic business plans for existing products with a focus on product positioning and competitive differentiation; define unique capabilities and benefits/value proposition of product offerings
  • Develop and communicate expertise on ETF and institutional industry trends
  • Leverage client and sales feedback on Mackenzie ETFs to assess the product health and drive ongoing product improvements and positioning

Product Development

  • Contribute to idea generation, design and launch of all new ETF products
  • Participate in cross-functional teams in executing strategy, overcoming issues and partnering with ETF Team to drive implementation
  • Engage in client needs analysis and market research: implement a client and market segmentation strategy to analyze, size and investigate potential of new markets, products and channels related to new products
  • Create client-facing passion for innovative new products

Capital Markets

  • Assist clients across all channels in achieving best execution when trading Mackenzie’s ETFs
  • Provide education on ETF liquidity and effectively communicate specific trading strategies and associated costs
  • Monitor volume, inflows/outflows, premiums/discounts, and identify trends to support sales teams
  • Monitor secondary market quality and drive spreads in by engaging additional on-screen market participants
  • Initiate educational ETF events focusing on liquidity, trading and market structure as well as other relevant topics

Qualifications

  • The ideal candidate will have 5-10 years of relevant technical experience and/or leadership in ETFs, asset management or wealth management businesses.
  • Demonstrated persuasive writing ability, including the ability to communicate effectively to technical and non-technical audiences
  • Strong investment knowledge of Canadian and global ETF markets; ETF operations; ETF capital markets; and asset management
  • Strong understanding of ETF structure and mechanics of creation & redemption
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including excellent communication skills
  • Poise, judgment, and gravitas to represent Mackenzie with clients and prospects
  • Be a self-starter who is achievement-oriented, motivated and has proven problem-solving skills in a client service role coupled with creative solutions
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Excellent knowledge of Excel, Morningstar, FactSet, and Bloomberg are assets
  • CFA designation, or equivalent
  • The role is primarily in English; however, French language skills highly valued
